Cheers. I picked them for the obvious reason that Angie, Klopp and Pep also squeeezed play upfield.

The paciest CBs in the game are: St. Juste at Sporting (93), Bombito at Nice (91), Magloire at Northampton (90), Haliti at Jagiellonia (89), Blackmon at Whitecaps (88), Lacroix at Palarse (88), Van de Ven (88 as stated), Neumann at Hannover (87), Balker at Huddersfield (87), and Coulibaly at Brest (86).

As i said before, straight line pace is overrated. Acceleration and change of direction is far more important for a centre back. Somethings ours lack.
I imagine we will see FH move Weiffer or Baleba back between the centre backs OOP before long to tighten the space and cut out the through balls.

If we're assuming that FIFA ratings are accurate, then I think that Minteh is our paciest player in the senior squad with a rating of 94 and Ferdi next with 88. However, Baleba is only 76, so I'm not sure how accurate this metric is.

It can't help that as far as I recall Baleba had less license to make marauding runs into the final third under RDZ, so EA probably had less to go off of when it came to calculating his pace. But I might be ignorant of how they come up with these figures.

Worth noting we have faced the joint-fifth fewest shots this season, 21 - as many as Villa. Only Liverpool (19), Spurs (19), City (17), and Forest (17) have faced fewer. The issue at the moment is that we've conceded 8 goals, or 38% of shots faced, about as many as Villa (9) but more than Liverpool (2), Spurs (5), City (6), and Forest (5). So we're defending well on the whole but struggling more than our peers to keep out shots the opposition does manage to take.

For sure, just thought the stats were somewhat encouraging. There's room for improvement but it's not a terrible place to be.
Fab was wrong to think that focusing on our attacking set up alone would be enough to result in our victory (or draw).
It was necessary to also think about how to set up to reduce the real threat from Chelsea's players. He didn't do that IMO.

Yes but that's the problem. Teams are cutting us open too easily and setting up tap ins. There is too much space. If we come up against that type of tactic then I'd expect Mitoma, Pedro, Adringa etc to also have a field day (hopefully on Sunday.....)

In my view, Igor has a slow turning circle. He's alright when he gets going but as others have pointed out, he's not that quick to turn and get going. I'd venture that Baleba can shift direction swiftly and covers the first five or ten metres extremely quickly.
I'm also somewhat sceptical of that FIFA score, because I've seen Webster keep pace with and outpace a number of rapid forwards on several occasions -- and they don't rank his pace that highly.

Yes I have, he caught Neto up away at Wolves in the FA cup in February. Wolves broke and it was a foot race between the two from the half way line, Igor put in a sliding tackle to knock the ball away by the penalty box. I remember it because I thought Neto would surely run away from Igor and slot it past Steele, I was really surprised when Igor got back in time. I checked with my daughter “was that Igor”? It was!

It's interesting reading this. But I do think simple pace or turning speeds are incrementally small solutions, and I just dont think that a quicker Lewis Dunk for example would solve the problem. Of course pace helps, but the bigger impact will be helping the back four to collectively anticipate when off-side is not the tactic and drop accordingly, and midfielders to screen the 1st time pass opportunities wherever possible. That's very difficult to do with quick turnover ball, 1st time blind passes into spaces, and so the patterns of attacking play to keep the ball are an even better solution than dropping off. I don't expect the tactics to change much but I do expect that later this season we will be much better at it.. however, in the meantime, I think we will see more of the same against Spurs.. could be brilliant for us or a horror show!

Webbo is relatively quick, see when he cleared off the line Saturday. The trouble is there is a big disadvantage, when you are turning or even on the half-turn against an on rushing forward.

Dunk and Webster are seasoned pros.. there's no way they haven't had a word with FH this week and said he needs to rethink/tweak the tactics for Sunday

As Jonathan Wilson pointed out, the problem with our high line is not the pace of our CBs but an inadequate press further up. We can work on that.
Also have to note that none of the four goals last week were the result of a high line being breached, although there were two other very clear chances somehow missed. But the high line works if you get it right higher up the pitch.
