The mother, who asked not to be named, had applied for a place at two schools via the council’s online portal amid fears she could be priced out of her daughter’s private school by the Government’s VAT raid. The email from Buckinghamshire council said: “Unfortunately we cannot offer any places at your preferred school/s as they are full”.

The email continued: “In this circumstance, we would normally advocate that [the child] should remain at their current school. However, if you can provide evidence that you can no longer finance the independent school fees, please advise and we can make a local authority non-preference allocation.”

It's almost as if 'the mother, who asked not to be named' and provides such an important story in The Telegraph is of the view that she deserves special treatment.

It's funny because WZ will take the piss out of people, fair enough, but CJD is often outright abusive as shown in that post.

I do take the piss and probably too much at times, but the irony of that little exchange was that I have no idea who @cjd is and my initial post was completely genuine.

He posted about the problems of going from employed to retired and 'on the scrap heap' wanting to find something to keep him occupied. It's a situation I found myself in 15 years ago and simply wanted to try and help. I also retired too early and had to find something completely different to do to keep me occupied.

Even after the first abusive reply, i still tried to respond in good faith, but after three abusive replies I just decided to leave it and won't engage again :shrug:

To look at in another way, Starmer is declaring everything. Even clothes purchased for his wife by her GBF because he has donated to the party. The implication that men must be in charge of family budget and purchasing clothes for their wives is caveman like but that’s a different matter entirely.

The Tory leaders just didn’t declare this sort of stuff and found loophole to hide their gifts. That’s the difference that your article highlights:

“Johnson avoided declaring the value of a free holiday from former MP Zac Goldsmith on the basis that it was provided in a personal capacity.”

This is all about integrity. We should be asking what the donors are getting in return for their gifts? Are Arsenal football club and Taylor Swift getting tax breaks or special treatment? Like for example, infosys who signed millions and millions of pounds worth of contract with the UK Government creating millions and millions of pounds of profit for Sunak’s family. All under the watchful and influential eye of Rishi.

He’s a Lawyer, what do you expect, took a Liberal Democrat MP to the Grand yesterday, he reckons the Labour Party in this current guise will be lucky to make 5 years 😮

Crikey how on earth to you spend almost 2 and a half thousand pounds on glasses . I paid just £150 for 2 for 1 Hugo Boss designer spectacles at Specsavers last month

I guess that's the difference though. He was 'given' glasses 'worth' £2,500 - he didn't buy them. If he bought them, then he'd probably take into account whether it was worth it, and probably end up with normally priced glasses like you & me.

I know he’s declared it all (albeit a bit late) but that’s not the pertinent issue for me.

The fact he’s accepting all these freebies is concerning.

I think anyway.

Strangely I'd be happier if he bought them and expensed it like any normal employee than taking a freebie from a wealthy donor who you just so happen to give a Downing Street pass to. That said, pretty much everyone else has to pay for their own work attire unless it's a uniform or a specific piece of safety gear so why should MP's be any different.

I'd rather they were kept separate. The meltdown one has become busy and extremely boring. There's very little information in there, eg the recent post from @nicko31 about Lammy and CC/terrorism. There's plenty of comments on there that are being very critical of everything and anything from posters who were strangely silent when the Tories were in government and doing similar or much worse things.

This is illustrative of my point. @nevergoagain has been on here for about 20 years, yet there wasn't a peep about Johnson redecorating Downing St, and how that was funded.
