I was talking to my girlfriend this morning about his supporters and trying to work out why he's so beloved.

In a roundabout way I can kind of understand why white Christian males would follow him.

He's promising to make sure they have all the power and the money and that they won't have to feel shame about having all the power and the money. He's plugging into that fear and anger so brilliantly satirised by Bo Burnham in his song Straight White Man:

We used to have all the money and land, And we still do, but it's not as fun now

So I get why that demographic would follow a demagogue like Trump.

But what about everyone else? What about everyone of his supporters who isn't a straight white man? Why? Perhaps his female support is happy with having less control of their own bodies. Perhaps his LGBTQ support is happy with the idea of their entire existence being criminalised.

It's baffling. Absolutely baffling.
I can only imagine many of his supporters are insecure narcissists? They want a "strong" leader that they can hide behind and justify their own aggressive views and actions 🤔.
If not that then I'm also 100% baffled.

97% of Fox News viewers thought Trump won the debate. A reminder of the ridiculous levels of polarisation
I wouldn't be surprised if some of these polls were, as Big Donny himself would say - "FAKE NEWS". Made up by the network to keep him and his disciples happy and to partly justify Fox backing him (even after they'd effectively ditched him earlier on in the campaign).

The whole thing is pretty pantomime, really. As mentioned, Trump - a convicted criminal, remember (but the Trump supporters don't believe that, obvs) - has already had one shot at president, didn't exactly do very well (hence being booted out), refused to accept the result of the last election, incited a riot, has multiple lawsuits hanging over him and he is STILL in the running for the top job again! All because cultists follow and support him, his policies and everything else that goes with him.

Even when he is now the old guy in the race (funny how none of them mention age any more) and spouts a constant stream of bullshit that is simple to dismiss. Some people are weird - and stupid.

Anyway, #RedWaveIncoming :lolol:

I'd like to agree but I just can't begin to get my head round how anyone who might have watched that debate has only just figured out Trump is a basket case.

I get that the vast majority are already decided and there will be a significant number of the rest that simply won't bother or don't want either.

What I don't get is why anyone can be undecided, particularly when Trump is such a polarising character. What are they waiting for?
I think this is the key now. There's nobody left who has decided to vote that hasn't decided who they're voting for IMO. It's all about getting those people who have decided not to vote to change their minds. Voter apathy is very prevalent among the young, but hopefully her performance today and the Swift endorsement will get a swathe of Gen Zers into the ballot box.

Yes they do, once they're President they're referred to as "President X / Mr President" for the rest of time. I believe the same applies to Vice President but I'm less confident of that.
Absolutely it does - when Vice President Biden was on Late Night with Stephen Colbert after leaving office but before running for president, he was always referred to as the Vice President. It's a very meaningful thing to do. It carries forward to other World Leaders too, they will always refer to Tony Blair as the Prime Minister, for example.

He always says there are loads coming from "mental institutions"....... you think nobody ever explained to him what Asylum seekers actually means.
This has been mentioned several times in recent months. It suggests that he really believes asylum seekers are people from mental asylums or, least, he cannot disassociate them because they both contain the word "asylum".

I really believe that they love someone who supports Trump and you make sacrifices for people you love but in the end when they get in the voting booth or mark their ballots at home, especially the women, they will vote for Harris and not tell another person who they actually voted for.

So even after last night's debate most of the bookies have Trump at evens to win the election, with Harris a whisker ahead at 4/5 .

What this tells you is that to compete for President any woman has to be extraordinary, and any black woman has to be super-extraordinary.

The bottom line is that this election will be decided not on each candidates ability, personality or policies, but rather on how racist and sexist the majority of voters are feeling at the precise moment they cast their vote.

I agree. The only thing I can think of is that the undecideds are either people who just have trouble making decisions, or lifelong Republicans who actually hate Trump but can't quite yet vote against.
