Quite so. Took the sting out of the game early and then just kept them at arm's length with a 2 goal cushion.
We scored...and then scored again. Amazing what happens when an England manager allows his players some freedom to play. Who knew?

Over 76% possession, but for once we were actually doing something with it. 16 attempts on goal, 9 of them on target.
Really looking forward to being at Wembley on Tuesday. I'm expecting even more liberty to play and entertain in front of the home crowd.

Yep. We scored a good goal and then pushed for the second. Some of the combinations were excellent given that we had many second choice players and three days’ preparation.
Ireland tightened up their block in the second half but we’d won the game by then.
Overall it was the antithesis of a Southgate game. If this is Carsley ball he can keep the job and I don’t care if he whistles Advance Australia Fair while he walks round St George’s.

The Irish crowd booed Grealish and Rice… because they turned from Ireland to England ,both had caps at under 21 level and one had played for Ireland in friendly games.
In my view it is all wrong that players can jump ship and chose another nation. It makes a mockery of “pride in your country “

Friendlies aside, what you have typed is the case. Friendlies can’t count as they’re pretty meaningless and just overblown training games.

Disappointed we didn’t put our foot on their throats 2nd half.
I know international football fandom is hugely about hopes and dreams but the Irish fan base must be up there with the most deluded in the world between their expectations and reality. I’ve not read one Irish fan online who completely understands where their team is at these days and still thinks they have a capable side just because the bulk of their squad plays EPL or Championship that they have a divine right to be getting results. If losing to Luxembourg etc wasn’t a big enough wake up call then I don’t know what is

Enjoyed the first half , but back to the old days in the second half
Kane was about as good as he was in the Euros , Trent’s passing was awful in the second half , Grealish went missing in the second half ,

I agree with @hart's shirt and @Guinness Boy. It was different/better.
(I didn't groan once during the game).
We surely need to replace the Toffee Hoofer with a modern goal keeper, though. Jason Steele would be better.
Grealish playing centrally/anywhere is so much better than the job he does for Citeh which, frankly, could be done by anyone (receive the ball on the wing, consider taking a player on, pass the ball back to the man who played it to him).
Slab head is a passenger.

But it was job done no? The Irish were never coming back into that game, they were pretty woeful. Another game in three days time, beginning of the season in a game already won, why risk an injury? As Pavilionaire said, I don't begrudge them it.
