But in the relegation season in 83, or in any of those seasons earlier, was there not a weekend when we were bottom or second to bottom? You'd have to look for the early results to find out

[Albion] Have we, at some point in our seasons in the EFL/EPL, occupied every position between 1-92?

Bottom of Div One 82/83
Well, yes, that was the point where being anywhere from 1 to 92 became possible. Although Coventry could have potentially done all 92 places sooner.
I’m sure Man Utd have - they’ve ’seen it all’ as that irritating song goes.Finally getting round to putting pen to paper regarding the Albion Fanzine culture/our rollercoaster ride in my 51 years watching the club, and wondered if we have actually occupied every position in 1-92 places in domestic football, and if we have, are we one of the few clubs that have actually done this?
For a start there can't be many teams in the top 2 Divisions who have been 92nd in the Football League at some point, maybe Burnley?
Is Tim Carder on NSC?

Blimey, I had exactly the same thought sitting on the bog this morning (home to so many great ideas).
I was going to use this weekend to research it but it sounds like things are already in motion. My guess, BTW, is that we have.

Luton did manage a top ten finish in 86-87. Doesn't look like they were top at any stage. Oxford United and Oldham didn't have very happy stays.Thank you
Carlisle topped the old First Division on the second Saturday of the 74/75 season but they dropped like a stone and finished 22nd, can't imagine they went from 1 to 2 to 3 etc.
Luton is a great shout, but then again did they ever top Div One or the EPL?
Notts County, Oxford United or Oldham maybe?
Notts County may well have been top in Victorian times.

Wolves may be another shout. I can’t verify that and my only reason for mentioning them is when I put a Facebook post up recently about us having occupied 92nd and Top of Premier, a Wolves mate replied saying they had too.

How do you judge occupied?
Is it the table immediately after your game? Or after all the games for that match day are played?
The former would give us more chance as we might have snuck into a position for an hour or two before dropping out again.

Not sure thats the same thing though. How can we have occupied every position, we haven't been bottom of the premier league. I know football was kicking about (pun intended) before the EPL but think it is a big obstacle to ignore.
True, going through all the results would do it regardless of any published tables in the media. No need to wait until you retire, you can do it between Tracker updates
Yes, I was there! I do seem to remember there was a debate as to whether we were 5th or 6th, (although we all agreed it was amazing that were that high in the first division).

According to Tim Carder and Roger Harris's book (and confirmed by 11v11) we were briefly 5th on 22 September 1981 after beating Wolves.

I'd be surprised. Wolves only had a couple of seasons in Division 4 and were challenging in both. They will only have had a couple in Division 3 as well.

Yep - but I guess that was only after a few games, so not 'midseason'.

Sadly, definitely 6th (though, as has been pointed out, we were 5th after beating Wolves in September)

Yeah there's absolutely no way that works. You have to consider the position no matter what the league. So in 83 we were 22nd so that is irrelevant whether we've been bottom of the prem. I think that's probably irrelevant anyway as surely we were 20th at some point back then
