This is likely to be one of the Sky matches so I wouldn't bet on a Wednesday, it will be whenever Sky say it will be. Being on TV will probably take ~5k off the gate too, I can't see many Wolves fans travelling for this one.

I REALLY hope we take this seriously though (and I think we will) as it's a cup and a route to Europe which the 'top' teams don't take seriously until at least the QF.

This sky plus thing is the worst of both worlds for the competition, isn’t it?

There are going to be no casual viewers chancing on some random football.

I don’t really see how it works out economically, for the TV companies, the viewing figures must be tiny, for the clubs, every gate is being badly impacted. The competition itself is being further damaged by the pictures of half full stadia

I'm not sure gates are being impacted at all, at least not in the League Cup.

The second round last year had a total attendance of 269019 over 24 games for an average of 11209 per match. This year the figure is a bit higher (although there was one extra game in the second round this season). The total attendance was 302436 for an average of 12097.

Although the figures are somewhat skewed for this season because both Everton vs Doncaster and West Ham vs Bournemouth had massive attendances (37.5k at Goodison Park and just over 47k at West Ham). The biggest two attendances last season were at Chelsea vs AFC Wimbledon (nearly 38k) and Forest vs Burnley (nearly 28k).

Take those two games away for both seasons and the numbers are fairly similar with a slight trend up for this season, so it really looks like the games being live on TV haven't had an adverse effect on attendance.

It will be interesting to see how the League 1 and 2 crowds are affected this weekend with no PL football it means all 3pm kick offs are live on Sky Sports + (although only 3 League One fixtures are being played due to international call ups).

Yes I guess you are right. It may attract some who want to watch a better level of match and the possibility of us going to the fourth round but we will do well to fill the lower bowl again. I'm going !
