Has really surprised me this pre season and season. I was worried we had 2 20 year olds with not that many PL minutes against there midfield three. I thought we had more control with him on the pitch much to his credit. I also think he was slightly deeper than Milner played allowed Baleba to move further left which i think assisted Hinch v Saka. His passing is crisp and has decent vision and isn’t afraid to put himself about. Maybe could have done better with his big chance but overall he’s looking like a great addition to the squad this season.

How things can change!

With O’Riley, Wieffer and Milner injured as well as Moder potentially, you have to have him down as a starter until we start getting some players back from the treatment room.

Thank Tony that the squad has such depth as we begin this campaign with an injury crisis.

I expect his development to accelerate with pace now, hopefully not to the detriment of our results.

Very intelligent player. I've just watched his open goal from behind him, you can see Raya is making a dive to protect the open space and Ayari places the ball into the space he is vacating rather than the open space and Raya saves with his knees

I'm unsure if this is unlucky, great goalkeeping or a bad shot

Another steady game.

Whilst admittedly, less experience and early days, can I quietly say I prefer him to WBG?

He looks for a forward pass earlier, tackles better, and seems to have a good awareness of what’s around him, resulting in a plan when he receives the ball - he’s still got work to do but very promising.

You also notice the way that ball was spinning before he hit it…which is why I think he shot as he did

He seemed to be looking to strike where the goalie had come from, so felt like a mixture of good goalkeeping and bad luck to me

I was slightly anxious about him having a significant involvement yesterday having thought he was fairly anonymous against Crawley….but I was wide of the mark….i thought he had a fine game

He did what he could. Entirely gone from the game until Rice was sent off, better after that.

Not someone you want in a Premier League starting eleven... yet.

More chance of scoring a goal than WBG ever likely to do so a ready-made replacement IMO……..but then we all knew that and weren’t in the least concerned at letting Wee Billy go 🤣
Over the season he will probably get as much game time as Gilmour was likely to do which will rather justify why he was keen to sign for Napoli

I saw that on the replay, and thought the same.

Raya SO lucky there; it basically just struck his trailing legs out of pure chance, as he was flinging himself the other way.

One of those ones that an absolute micro-fraction of a second later would have sailed in.

Yes, Yasin Ayari has improved remarkably in the last three days, going from a player most of NSC would have been happy to see loaned out to someone who is better than Billy Gilmour, who was apparently shipped out because he's not good enough to get us to Europe. Narrative bending and tinted glasses has made him go from a Championship midfielder to a semi-regular starter in a team that people expect to end up top 8 in the PL.

Very happy for him - and us - if this remains the perspective throughout the season and not only now when it is a strong desire to see every move he does as if he's the next Alexis Mac Allister.

I like Ayari and think he could become a good player, but the honeymoon factor here is very strong: imo, Ayari playing a lot of PL football is a real weakness and Wieffer/Baleba/Milner/O'Reily/Hinshelwood (and Gilmour for that matter) are all better than him by a fair margin. I'm hoping to be proved wrong and that he's super good etc. like every new/fresh player always is until they're not.

Really hope Wieffer & some left back are back after the international break. Baleba and Ayari worked really hard but none of them are able to be the "engine" on PL level. Hinshelwood or Wieffer needs to be there or contol/chance creation is going to be a problem every game.
