The thing is we have to accept that to get the players to come in we offer them the chance to leave as well.

This is another example of that which we use to attract players in the first place.

Low price though.

I trust the club, but... really?

Either we (fans) are not prepared for just how good our midfield is going to be, or Tony is just the nicest businessman to ever live.

I'm certainly not claiming the manager didn't like him.

The club being happy to sell him, as I understand they were, could be for a wide range of reasons, many of which have nothing to do with the manager.
Nah not seen you say anything like that, but plenty did. Hurzeler likes Gilmour, that much is certain after last Saturday.

I don't think either of the club or manager was happy to sell. He was probably "promised" to replace Mac Allister but circumstances changed and the club kind of felt obliged on a human level to let him go when Napoli wanted him, given they'd might have guaranteed Wieffer a starting place intention.

Napoli key players (which I think he'll be given how hard they've chased him) also earn 3-4x what a Brighton squad player does and I imagine that makes the decision easier. Imho its a real loss but shit happens. Not the end of the world.

Grandoldteam was the same. If you post, about anything including complimentary stuff, their paranoid inner circle obsess in playing private detective, followed by mutual backslapping.

Yes! Totally.

The geniuses there called me a heroine addict... ya know... because I'm Scottish.... errrrr... yeah.

cpfc.org, readytogo, shedend and comeonboro …. you could be on another planet. Dominated by a few thick people trading aggressive insults, all posts seem brief, no one’s very analytical about football, politics.

Agreed.

Honestly, this is the best and most respectful club site I've ever registered to.

I definitely have a wee bit of affection for Brighton because of it. It's nice to be nice.

Redcafe is the worst for players. For x amount of years they give McTominay dogs abuse... now he's gone, they're sitting in Shiva.

It's very weird.

(Sorry if I'm derailing the thread)

why did he start last Saturday (despite no pre-season) ahead of Ayari and Baleba if the manager didnt like him?

Who said the manager didn’t like him?

I said ‘he wanted shot of him’ (probably a too harsher way of saying it) because the system FB plays and the players we’ve recruited over the summer means he’s been pushed down the pecking order not because he ‘didn’t like him’.

FB said himself that players won’t always get the amount of football they want and if they don’t feel they can develop in those circumstances they are free to find a Club that can offer them more. No manager can say fairer than that. Players push for loans or transfers for that very reason.

Btw, you arguing with @Bozza suggesting you are more ITK than he is about what the Club wants when he clearly stated that he had heard that the Club was happy to let WBG go, came across as a little arrogant considering you are in another Country.

We expect to buy players at local prices and then get pissed that we can't sell back PL prices, this is simply not sustainable. Wee Billy has had a bit of a hard ride, he came to us thinking he was going to play under Potter, who then pissed off to where Billy had come from. He only became part of the starting 11 last season because players were sold and we had that horrendous injury list. And I suspect he doesn't want the role of ok we are short, now where's dependable Billy.

Not getting sold for £50m is one thing, my main concern right now is promising to make a seagull tattoo if he was sold for less than £12m.

How does this work in England @El Presidente, do the clubs need to report the exact fee at one time or another?

A strange decision by the club, and one I’m really struggling to get my head around, particularly for the paltry fee received, and particularly when Mctomminey, who had one year left on his deal, went for nearly 3x the price. It seems selling our best midfielders every summer is part of the Brighton fabric at this stage. Which is fine whilst it works… but eventually it won’t.

It also puts a lot of pressure on our new manager to get this right straight off the bat.

Anyway, good luck to Gilmour. He’s been a pleasure to watch.

“New manager” picked “player” for a very tough first home match of the season. When there were plenty of other midfield options in the squad like Baleba, Ayari or Hinsh. If he doesn’t fancy “player”, what the hell does he think of those other guys? 🤣

Sorry this is not clear at all “to get”. The more plausible explanation is Gilmour moved heaven and earth to make it happen and we let it happen when we probably should have delayed it a few months to January to see if our other options are shaping up
The risk being taken is incredible really, when you consider last season.

Sorry to see you go Billy and thank you for your efforts with Brighton I hope you are very successful in Napoli and our two clubs meet at some point so we can give you a proper thank you and obviously beat Napoli 4-0 and you get two yellows just after scoring our fourth goal a stunning sliced clearance that screamed into the top corner

Well thats it then.

Annoyed. We finally have a tactic that fits Billy, his creativity and passing more than "give the ball to Mitoma" did. Finally a tactic and style where he would have been a badass drummer rather than the maladjusted kid playing the triangle. And we only got one game of it.
I am guessing that WBG himself really pushed for this move as he wants the chance to be a first choice, not a back up
