Last season we had two pivote players responsible for winning the ball back, which isn't Gilmours strong side (quite the opposite). This season we play a "regista" in midfield behind the five ball winning players (MC, AMC, FC, LW, RW).

They are supposed to make life rough enough for opponents so that they have to be chancey when they build up play, hopefully (if we dont manage to win it back through pressuring) playing it long so our defenders can deal with it. We're going to have ball winners like Baleba and Milner playing higher up the pitch than the playmaker, because we want to win the ball on their half (or close to it).

Another big difference in our play now is that the starting position of the striker is in midfield. The idea is that we'll find a ball to a running striker rather than someone stationed in the penalty box. Having someone like Billy trying to pick that breakthrough ball rather than the arbitrary pass to a random winger would have been so good to see imho.

I hope promising Mats Wieffer a starting role is worth it. I didn't see a lot of Feyenoord last season and will refrain from making some kind of prediction on his quality. From the little I've seen he's "good but not going to be sold for £115m".

I dont disagree for one minute WS, Caicedo was better for us than WBG was, but they are different types of players with different attibutes.

I think we had Chelseas pants down with the fee for Caicedo and Napoli have just had ours down for the reported fee for WBG.

We do miss that player in the Biss/Caicedo mold more than we will WBG...... only Baleba shows that potential type of physical presence.

But we still have lost a very handy and good player in WBG and it seems an absolute steal for circa £11m

People keep including Gruda as a CM option. He's not. He's never played a senior game in centre midfield. He's an attacker, winger or attacking midfielder like Enciso, Sarmiento or Buonanotte.

Gruda and Rutter are not central midfielders no matter how much you want to imagine that they are.

I go out on limbs. A lot of times I get it right - not good enough on Excel to know how often - and sometimes I don't.

I've spent dumb time trying to figure out how the club functions around transfers and what kind of qualities that are desired etc. but I'm no feckin Tony Bloom you know? And I have no idea what the Sussexian milkmen are whispering. I can only go by what seems logical.

I get some transfers wrong every window, which imho happens easily, but I also get a lot of them right, which is not so easy.
