That’s where I was until yesterday but their obnoxious fans and players have totally changed my mind. I even have family from Crawley and don’t despise the town itself as much as some do. But their football team? Nah. Not any more. I hope they get relegated and vanish back to non-league.

My great grandparents lived in Newhaven plus my grandmother until she married a bloke from Lewes. Great granddad was a crane driver in the port working for the railway.

I live near @BN9 BHA in a lovely area, facing the Downs, but not far from the sea, with great access to Brighton & Eastbourne.

I will drink to Crawley's demise as a football club with the same gusto as when I hear **** Putin is dead.

When Williams was subbed off, he went straight down the tunnel didn’t he? I’m guessing he was trying to look really angry that he’d been subbed - couldn’t possibly be that he didn’t want to sit with home fans a few feet away and put up with some much deserved ‘heckling’ - unless he was told to go down the tunnel to avoid that

Having witnessed some appaling away fan behaviour and support at the ground, station, and transport last night.
There should be a total ban on the sale and consumption of HARIBOs, and Fanta/ 7 up.
Future fixtures should be on a school night, with adult letters of permission accompanying tickets.

Going into last nights game I’ve never been a fan of the place (grew up just outside of, great for shopping and jobs…always headed south for entertainment though!); or team. The antithesis of scenic Sussex I’ve always said, and a bit too close to Croydon and certainly more in common with.

However, I must be the only Albion fan coming away from the Amex last night that’s changed their opinion by looks of! It’s the underdog in me I suppose and all the years we were in their shoes. Thought they played some really good football, the fans were loud and proud and loved some of their banter, so good on ‘em. Yes some of the tackles weren’t great but we’ve dished the same out before now. It happens. Part of the game and positively non contact compared to the game many of us grew up with.

I’m less of a snob about them in summary. Although “You’re just a shit Crystal Palace” chant was a step too far. I had to remonstrate with that.

I got caught up in all that by accident and had to laugh. The pimples on some of those Yoof’s were hilarious. Some can’t have been more than 13 or 14 and yet were getting over excited as you say. The Police were demonstrably tolerant, the kids out of control although I saw several pulling their angry mates away and telling them to stop being stupid, they were a whisker away from getting nicked etc. Mostly all bravado and young men/youth doing what they’ve done for centuries. I think we forget we weren’t any better. Alls well that ends well. Mostly all noise, piss and wind. Showing off and fuelled by Haribo and Coca-Cola as you say.

Tilegate Parade has a good independent bakery and fish n chip shop I'll give it that. People who drink in the Grasshopper tend to walk on their knuckles.

I've seen it kicking of in the High st at 9am more than once. In a year and a half there was 3 fatal stabbings less than 1/4 mile from where i lived and a woman got coshed with a length of pipe 50 yards down my road in broad daylight. One main problem was a dodgy Letting agents using HMO's to house released cons from all over the south as they had such a bad reputation locally.

There's a bit of truth in that. Maybe not shitting it, but picking up a serious injury in the early rounds of the Cup would be a huge blow at this stage of their career. Plus some like Sarmiento, Lamptey, O'Mahoney could well be on the brink of a move. Self-preservation would be understandable.

Crawley played some good football but the movement of the ball from Brighton players was so quick and at times the Crawley players were struggling to keep up with it .Its why there was some shitt pulling and a few late tackles ..Take away the Jay Williams tackle on O Riley ,which was a bad challenge,it wasn't an overly dirty match .Even the red card wasn't that bad ,the Brighton player was up on his feet in 20 seconds and shrugged it off .
Jay Williams is an aggressive tackler ,he plays like that most of the time ,In your face ,letting the opposition know he's there etc etc .Doesn't mean the challenge was ok ,but don't use that to slag off the whole team ,fans and as usual the town itself ....As I say there were a few tired tackles and pulls and tugs because as Crawley players tired the Brighton players went up a gear and the movement and quick passing was the difference between premier league players and league one /two players.

As for the Brighton fans ,Jesus ,do they take sleeping tablets before they go to games .
Did the noisier ones stay at home for this game .Funny lot of supporters ,seems a very middle class vibe and happy clappy feel about the place .
I won't even talk about the trains ,jesus ,no wonder you lot are so quiet ,to busy planning wondering if you need to leave 20 minutes early to avoid the wait .
I won't wish you well for the season nor will I hope you tumble back to the championship,where you really do belong because for all the melts on here trying to get some kind of rivalry started Crawley just aren't interested , Brighton have never been on the radar in the town and never will be ,not untill you eventually slip down the leagues and we get to play you more often.
Oh ,sort the parking out in Brighton and tidy up London Road and do something with the graffiti and replace the pebbled beach with sand blah.blah ,blah.

I normally slate our home support but it wasn't too bad given the context of last night. It was literally our least important competitive game of the season.
By the same rule Crawley were embarrassing. Half the away end sat down and not even close to being sold out. They were loud for one period before we scored but after that I heard them maybe twice. Some big day out
