Is it really that unusual. ?

We made 4 changes from the equivalent starting line up (Newcastle in the Summer Series) to Luton (H) last season.

Wouldn't be a surprise if we made about 4-5 changes this time max from QPR > Everton (A) . - ie: bringing in Dunk, Pedro, Verbruggen, Barco ? , Gilmour (if still at club/fit) , maybe a debut for Wieffer is probable.

As for giving wholesale changes after 60 mins / 80 mins game time in a pre season friendly. thats pretty normal for any club.

the idea that he doesn't know his best team - i don't know if thats the case but not seeing much evidence of it- most of his hand is being forced with injuries or unavailability (Dunk etc) or being careful (precautionary absences - good to see Jack H back yesterday. first minutes for months - as with Mitoma in Japan)

Pretty obvious that he sees Dunk, JPVH, Minteh, Mitoma, Welbeck, Pedro, Milner, Baleba, Wieffer, Verbruggen as core of his team.

His questionmarks are full backs mostly and that midfield line up. Baleba + Wieffer ? Baleba + Gilmour (is he staying ? ) , but the rest of the team seem nailed on. (GK, centre backs , front line, )
Agree . He probably has a very good idea of who he wants as first choice but as a new manager and wants to see as much of the pool of players he might have at his disposal, so playing a game (even a friendly) and mixing it up is much better place to see things rather than just training games. The changes probably have less impact on cohesion in the sense they play a system style of football where players know where they fit in the 'system' and that's how squads work .

Of course not - but he’s still one of the most promising academy centre backs in the country . And Dunk ain’t retiring just yet.
Dunk's got 2 years max. Loves nothing more than a little bit of a breather on the half way line with his foot on the ball. And let's hope that 16 year old kiddie isn't that good, else he'll be sacrificed to TB's bottom line long before he reaches 21

Skipped 10 pages as imagine where I left the thread at 14:45 yesterday probably featured at least 60 posts asking for a link to a stream or how to navigate the Albion website

Apologies if covered in these posts but was apparent there was a couple of new chants yesterday

Particularly the standard “follow follow follow” chant that I’m sure featured “Carlos Baleba, JP Van Hecke” this time round, can anyone confirm the words?

We used to have a cracking South American themed follow follow chant before the sales, so interested in the remix

Cheers

The final friendly is the one you expect to see what will be the likely starting 11 at Everton, and normal use of substitutes. Before that, he will want as much info on everyone as he can get, and for all players that he wants in the squad to feel they have had a chance to stake their claim for inclusion in match squads.
Inspired by these two posts and based on what i have seen from the matches so far i have had a go at what i think will be the starting line up in the final friendly and thus probably Everton as well.
Aside from the obvious unknowns (signings, outgoings and injury returns) the biggest problem and wildest guess was who will start with Welbeck up front and the midfield 2. That being said here it is:-
Steele
Veltman Van Hecke Dunk Barco
Milner Hinshelwood
Minteh Pedro Welbeck Mitoma

Surely Baleba and Wieffer in midfield?

Way out West
Looking like Milner currently, I think FH likes the youth plus experience blend and the physicality.
Yes - I was a bit baffled initially seeing so much of Milner in these games, but he puts himself about and as long as he has plenty of speedy players around him, his lack of pace won't be an issue [hopefully no chance of him turning up at right back]

also very useful on the pitch as a leader if no Dunk now that Lallana and Pascal have gone.
