The only time I have been seriously worried in preseason was when Hyppia was in charge.
As much due to the players though. COG, Fenelon, Holla, N’zuzi and the rest.

Even SEMI would probably keep the current squad up. We’re aiming a bit higher than 16th these days though 😉

The final friendly is the one you expect to see what will be the likely starting 11 at Everton, and normal use of substitutes. Before that, he will want as much info on everyone as he can get, and for all players that he wants in the squad to feel they have had a chance to stake their claim for inclusion in match squads.
Hope so. Would be good to see the scattergun formation approach thus far employed through necessity crystallise into something approaching a near starting formation for Everton away. Absences due to the various close-season international competitions combined with the club's Japan adventure haven't exact provided the new gaffer with a stable bedding-in period

Skipped 10 pages as imagine where I left the thread at 14:45 yesterday probably featured at least 60 posts asking for a link to a stream or how to navigate the Albion website

Apologies if covered in these posts but was apparent there was a couple of new chants yesterday

Particularly the standard “follow follow follow” chant that I’m sure featured “Carlos Baleba, JP Van Hecke” this time round, can anyone confirm the words?

We used to have a cracking South American themed follow follow chant before the sales, so interested in the remix

Cheers

I think a trip away is probably beneficial. Dunk not returning till this week, might mean he doesn't play the 90 next weekend, and maybe Weiffer not getting his fitness back sooner, means he won't play 90 either, but it should be closer to a normal game, with fewer and later subs.

Slightly odd that Rushworth didn’t get any minutes isn’t it?

I think that’s as clear an indication as you’ll see that he’s going out on loan again this season.
On the plus side, I imagine it's a clear indication that the conspiracy theories around Bart's absence are a load of bollocks. If there was any chance that Verbruggen would leave, then surely Rushworth would have had some decent game time by now?

The formation has been pretty much 4-2-3-1 in every game so far.
And Next week, as per normal , you’ll see pretty much the likely Everton line up starting at Villarreal .
True - He probably could have done with having Wieffer (from the start), Dunk, Barco, Pedro and Verbruggen available yesterday but they’re all close now.

I thought that Rushworth took a knock in Japan and BHA were playing safe by not playing him.

One thing I've got from these friendlies so far is how much we need to find/invest/train up a replacement for Lewis for when he finally hangs up his boots.
Be great to have a home made replacement waiting in the wings.

16 year old Freddie Simmonds, England youth captain and playing for the u21s today is a great home made centre back prospect.

Watched from the home end with a QPR supporting chum, he just felt that there was a clear gulf in quality, he’s not overly confident of a successful season for the R’s he liked the look of Baleba, can’t disagree, think he’s going to be a dominating force in midfield for us.

Be interesting how we get on against Villarreal with that tactic.

QPR were poor, every time the had the opportunity to work the ball around us, they overhit the pass. Their movement was abysmal, and they’re one week ahead of us. Their forwards were cumbersome, defence were very ponderous.

BTW Cozier-Duberry’s touch when he pulled the crossfield pass down, was moment of the match for me. That was brilliant……
that cross field was the moment for me, great vision and skill from o'Mahony , take down was very good though.

Most likely there won't be any new Lewis Dunk for a long long time. If he had established himself in the PL as a 21- or 22-year old rather than a 27-year-old, he would have been very sold by now.

Dunk is exactly at the level where he is a great PL defender but just below the level of what the biggest clubs would be interested in.. not easy to find/develop players like that.
