Quite. I think it's worth considering that players have different strengths and weaknesses under different managers. BDB under Potter was a revelation, for example.

IMO Igor is already good enough for our realistic ambitions of a PL finish next season (10-15th). If he leaves I'm not sure we'd get much better at that level. Depends on the £ I suppose.
*your - certainly not Bloom or Barber’s

Colwill loved RDZ he’s no longer here. I’m guessing it would be near impossible to get him to sign now.
No one besides Umpberto Bogliano at the Sassuolo Gazette had ever heard of anyone named Roberto De Zerbi when Colwill joined us on loan.

Levi is a clever lad and knows his best chances are with us. I'm sure he liked De Zerbi but he's seen the rest of the club as well, and know what we're about.

If we can get a bid accepted, he's coming imho.

His inability to ever win ANY headers, means that he could not possibly be classed (IMO) as a 'proper old fashioned centre half'.

He isn't bad with the ball at his feet, and he can pass it quite well. Those are his plus points, but they do not come close to making up for his weaknesses (lack of pace, lack of height, tendency to jump into poor challenges, turning circle of a cruise liner).

Playing Igor (like Shane Duffy back in the day) effectively forces you to set up your defence in a particular way. You simply can not play a high defensive line, with a defender as slow, and slow to turn as that. If you are happy to line your defenders up on the 18 yard line, like Chris Hughton or Neil Warnock, then a defender in that mould is an option (though in truth either of those mangers would reject him due to his weakness in the air).
Imagine is his name was Ian Jeffries, born and raised in the North of England. There’d be a few different opinions of him!

Unfortunately I’ll be stunned if AC Milan actually sign him.

But that is the problem. No one here knows what the budget, even if there is one, will be next year for new players. It certainly wasn’t enough to keep RDZ so at least we know that.
To an earlier point, Dahoud is allegedly one of the very top earners at the club, and Fati was on £125k p/w. Igor was £17m, Bart was £16m, Baleba was ~£25, Pedro was £30m... So in all, we spent nearly £100m last summer. The £115m we got for Caicedo could easily have been eaten up by most of those incomings.

I'd be surprised if we spend another £100m this summer

To my mind ,a useful squad player, with plenty of experience.probably he played more minutes than I would have liked.Perhaps we sell him and go back for Colwill,if Chelsea have to sell home grown.

If we sell him that would mean A.C Milan's central defence would be ex Albion - Igor and Tomori. Blimey.

For those of us who grew up with the classic A.C Milan team of the early 90's it's mind blowing to think that we'll be providing the successors(yes, I know there've been a few players in between...) to Baresi and Costacurta.
Might be reaching a bit there 😂

Don't think the "oops, Lewis Dunk turned old and shite. Well, we've got Igor!" scenario is something to embrace.

I’m comfortable with a JPvH/Igor central pairing, and I’m certainly not writing Dunk off just yet, but nobody’s immune from getting older. There will come a time when his minutes have to be managed.

As for the rest of your post Swanny, I couldn’t in good conscience say that your camouflage was holding up entirely.

I have a list of ca 100 names that I will revise a bit with data based on whoever we appoint, which I'll publish once our new manager is around. Think we will be linked to some of them... I've kind of made a model based on what seems like parts of our model, with different critera for every role. Example: I'd never consider a central defender with less than 85% pass success rate or a wing back with less than 70% and rarely with less than 90/75 unless a lot of other shit adds up.

Going to post it once our new manager is in place, plenty of youtubing for those who like to dream :)

Overall I think our main target will be Levi Colwill and that we're willing to pay handsomely to get him in.

Otherwise I could just see us getting another youngster as the Igor replacement. The number one replacement on my probably-not-amazing-data-model is some 20-year-old Argentinian named Mariano Troilo, currently playing for Belgrano. GET HIM IN.
Is Swansman/Han Solo actually Paul Barber's burner?

To the hearing of De Zerbi, anyone with a wider interest in European football had heard of Roberto De Zerbi and his Sassuolo side. The Italy squad having three Sassuolo players (Locatelli, Berardi, Raspadori) regularly getting minutes at Euro 2020, whilst the rest of the squad was almost exclusively of players from traditionally elite sides, made a lot of people take notice of the work he'd done there. If you didn't, that's on you.

On Levi, he's not coming to us. If he leaves Chelsea, he'll be going to a team like Liverpool, Manchester United, or Arsenal. We cannot afford the fee, and probably can no longer afford his wages after he signed a new contract last year. Even last summer, he was more likely to end up at Liverpool than us.

Sell Igor, buy the best young central defender in the championship. Keep Webster in reserve.
Dunk and JPVH to start the season.

Might be click bait but if we get what we paid for him that will still be seen as profit due to depreciation.

Any reason Igor isnt with the squad in pre season at the moment? Just posted pics of him and friends on a beach in Brazil.

Not that I'm overly bothered if he's roleplaying as oxygen in Brazil or Brighton but its a little odd I guess. Some sort of injury rehab or personal matters?
Unfortunately seems like the rumours around him has died down a little. I imagine the club is rather keen on getting rid but we may end up in a situation where we're not buying another LCB because Igor is still around.
