as 10cc say, not in hove
Well, 28 of them tested positive relatively recently but the IOC accepted their explanation of ‘food contamination’ in a restaurant. Really unlucky how it’s always the Chinese competitors who unwittingly get served dodgy food loaded up with banned performance enhancing substances.

I guess with Russia already booted into touch the IOC were reluctant to bin off China, especially given their share of global tv viewing figures
It was "only" 23 I thought but yarp, you are probs correct

Yes, sorry, 23, not 28. Whilst I believe most people watching recognise what is probably going on here, I feel desperately sympathetic for those competing against them.

Feels like ‘Olympics proper’ now the track athletes are involved.

Looking forward to seeing Keeley Hodgkinson go in the first round of the 800m at 6:45pm 🇬🇧
They just mentioned on 5Live that, next time round in LA, they are switching it around and athletics will be at the beginning, with swimming at the end. This is being done to give Team USA a flying start in the medal table.

Mate of mine was there for the last LA Olympics and on TV they only showed events that Americans were in and winning…if they were running and say lying outside the top 3 without a chance of a medal, they cut away to another sport.

seemly one race where the last three were running down the track and two non Americans pulled away , the cameras concentrated on the 3 rd place American and didn’t even show the exciting finish!

we are very lucky over here that our BBC does try to watch as many events they can afford and doesn’t concentrate just on Brit winners ( although we are doing fantastically well at the moment)

Ok. So what do we make of the lavender coloured track?

I suppose it looks quite fresh but it’s not great for lane definition. I reckon they would have been better switching it and using the darker colour they have used on the service areas for the track and vice-versa.

They have all this amazing technology in sport, yet the athletes still have paper bibs attached with safety pins. Giant ones, the women can barely fit on their tops.

There must be a better way.

Pheobe Gill

17 years old. This time last year running in English schools championships and now through to the Olympic 800m semi final. What an outstanding talent
Then Hodgkinson barely broke a sweat.

Was this a joke? I cannot imagine the Olympics where the athletics kicks it off. I love track and field, but not delaying it until day 7, as is tradition, will just put all the minority sports in the shade.
