They just mentioned on 5Live that, next time round in LA, they are switching it around and athletics will be at the beginning, with swimming at the end. This is being done to give Team USA a flying start in the medal table.Feels like ‘Olympics proper’ now the track athletes are involved.
Looking forward to seeing Keeley Hodgkinson go in the first round of the 800m at 6:45pm

Mate of mine was there for the last LA Olympics and on TV they only showed events that Americans were in and winning…if they were running and say lying outside the top 3 without a chance of a medal, they cut away to another sport.
seemly one race where the last three were running down the track and two non Americans pulled away , the cameras concentrated on the 3 rd place American and didn’t even show the exciting finish!
we are very lucky over here that our BBC does try to watch as many events they can afford and doesn’t concentrate just on Brit winners ( although we are doing fantastically well at the moment)

Ok. So what do we make of the lavender coloured track?
I suppose it looks quite fresh but it’s not great for lane definition. I reckon they would have been better switching it and using the darker colour they have used on the service areas for the track and vice-versa.

Was this a joke? I cannot imagine the Olympics where the athletics kicks it off. I love track and field, but not delaying it until day 7, as is tradition, will just put all the minority sports in the shade.
