Funny that it's taken an upturn after subsequent heads of recruitment left, and weren't replaced - guess it highlights where the importance lies.
It’s an interesting one, isn’t it? Whilst the recruitment team help to identify and monitor targets, we are doing this with loads (hundreds) of players on a rolling basis, ultimately it’s down to Tony to sanction transfer offers. Many of our signings are players we’ve been interested in for years, just biding our time and waiting for the right deal, contracts to run down, clauses to activate, or for more data (appearances) before going forward.

I guess my point is that our pipeline of targets has burst, probably combined with some extra ambition from Tony in paying the necessary to get the targets over the line.

A very common theme in new signing first press conferences and interviews is “Brighton first contacted me a few years ago” or “We’ve been watching X player for a number of years”. I’d say practically every signing actually!

It’s Barber that sanctions them isn’t it ? Heard a few times that Tony only signs off the appointment of managers…….

We’re also seeing the clear benefits of allowing some top talent to leave for daft money (even if it led to a short period of ‘underperformance’) - having the pile of cash to be able to attack our transfer targets, plus the outstanding strategic management/timing of waiting until the rubber hit the road on certain clubs PSR woes (Minteh/Toon for example) - and not splashing a load of cash on ‘PL ready’ signings in January because De Zerbi was having a hissy fit. Finally, the much vaunted youth development/pathway is really paying off - players like ACD seeing us as a better bet than Arsenal to take their careers forward.

Other clubs must hate us 🤣

You could be right, that said I think Tony is more involved behind the scenes than some of us realise. For example, Enciso just mentioned that Tony Bloom personally asked him not to go to the Olympics, but accepted his decision to represent his country

Even though many of these jokes about Bah are rather woolly, we mutton get down if we can't ram this deal through. While we must take care to avoid being fleeced by Benfica, we should avoid being shorn of our current defensive capabilities. A bit of a gambol, perhaps? Then again, we are a bit penned in on this one!

Sheer madness. We’re hardly on the rack, but who’s going to shoulder the blame if it goes wrong ?

Never heard the term herd for sheep. And I lived on a farm for years. A herd is generally large animals like cattle that are spread out over a larger area. Flock is used for smaller livestock that stay close together, just like sheep!

Looking at a photograph of him, I think he'd fit better in a flock of seagulls. 👍🏻

6 pages in, roughly 5 posts about Alexander Bah, the rest all sheep puns. Standard
Not forgetting about a page worth of debate about whether you can use "herd" for sheep.

The problem is that it's just so lazy and fills up the whole thread with no information. If you're not going to put any effort into your sheep puns you might as well just fuc-kofta.

He might be more trouble than he's worth. I've heard he has a bit of a fondness for gamboling. We don't he dress up like a lamb,

Sheer madness. We’re hardly on the rack, but who’s going to shoulder the blame if it goes wrong ?
Whoever it is, they will be for the chop for sure.
