The good old days, remember?
Which good old days?
Paying the panel every Friday to clear the doctor’s bill?
Rationing?
Polio?
Diptheria?
Moors Murders?
Three day week?
IRA bombings?
Rampant inflation?
Women not being allowed to open bank accounts on their own or have a credit card?

My apologies I missed your post in the avalanche, I don't feel you're far left I do spot a few on here that must be pretty close to it. Although when I say they are frightened to the point that they may have an outburst and scream a bit, when they do scream it is full on Anger like you said.

If only Nigel could Reform some of the centralist, we could start to get Britain how it used to be and be proud of our nation again.

I wasted my vote on Tory
as I underestimated the power of Nigel and reform. If all goes as I think I will not be wasting it again, I know so many that gave their vote to Tory, if a lot more done that in there constituency Reform would have won more seats rather than come 2nd in nearly 100 seats labour and lib dems got lucky this time. Starmer, needs to nail this or they will not get the forecasted 10 year stint.
Yet so many of the damaging and divisive policies of the last 45 years have been introduced by a Conservative Party obsessed with the free-market, privatisation and rewarding corporate bosses - and before you say "What about Blair?", yes, he was in thrall to Thatcherism, sadly, and so continued with many of her principles and policies.

Saying you vote Conservative because you want to "turn the clock back to how it used to be" when it is the Tories who have dogmatically imposed changes on us and demanded 'modernisation' since the 1980s, and thereby changed Britain beyond all recognition, and left millions of ordinary hard-working people worse off, not just economically, but in terms of unaffordable housing, and trashed public services. And most of our privatised industries are now foreign-owned - does turning back the clock involve renationalisation to 'take back control' ???

What is the era you think Britain should be returning to so you can be proud of it?

Personally I still see the things that make me proud of Britain.

Music, comedy, literature, theatre. As well as those notions and institutions that ensure a fairer society such as the BBC, NHS and multiculturaism.

I don't see that Reforms policies are going to help with any of the things that make me proud to be British though. Aside from reforming the House of Lords, that sounds like a good idea to me.

Cutting tax rates for the lowest paid sounds like a good idea too, as do a couple of other policies designed to b help the poorest in society. Although I dint see Farage delivering on these as I suspect he is a grifter uniterested in helping the man on the street.

So tell me about the time you were proud of and you'd like to get Britain back to. And what reform policies do you think will help?

Thatcher was the inspiration behind our greatest exports though. Music and comedy wouldn't have been as great with out her (f***ing up the working classes).

So there's that, thanks Maggie.

Perhaps when neurodiverse people where treated as schizophrenic and institutionalised?

Its a weird idea to want to turn the clock back to a time when one time or other.

Surely a better idea would be to imagine a world you want and try to progress towards it?

You've made a decent effort at bringing Angela Rayner into this thread, but I'm afraid the thread title is 'Nigel Farage and Reform'.

Can we keep to the subject of the thread please?
What would you expect him to do, keep us all up to date with the sterling work Farage has been doing for the people of Clacton?

I think weak whatabboutery will be the best Nicks will be able to offer on this thread.

Unless the workshy, grifting scrounger suddenly develops a work ethic.

Yes, we can only move forward, not back.

Rampant football violence, National Front, gay folk getting their heads kicked in..by the police, institutions more corrupt than they are now, widespread discrimination, a feral media, hand me downs, rickets.

I think some folk see the past through the eyes of Janet and John.

There are some things I miss about growing up in 70s, namely life was less regulated, but I think society is better now by some distance.

Folk talk about the 'sense of community' back then somehow forgetting that they are responsible for it themselves. Wistful memories are less to do with better times and more to do with now being closer to the grave than the cradle.

And rape in marriage deemed a husband's 'conjugal rights' (until the early 1990s) 🤮

No he isn’t as he’s done f*** all since he was elected apart from one of the worse maiden speeches ever …. he has form as he did f*** all when he was an MEP. The mans a sponging little prick. I’m surprised that someone as up standing as you, would have anything to do with someone who is made a career of sponging of the state.
And what's Rayner done since being elected ?

The few that don't have me on ignore and sometimes read my posts might be interested in a parents in law update. We had to spend time with them yesterday. Both voted Reform. MIL probably influenced by FIL. They would have voted Tory but Farage's u-turn was irresistible to FIL.

FIL's firm stop the boat policy was to start blowing them out of the water.

Needless to say Starmer and labour are completely useless in every respect.

Despite being told that Ukraine will suffer with a Trump presidency, FIL was unmoved. In fairness, MIL was in agreement with everyone else there.

FIL was keen to praise the introduction of the NHS (by Labour as the only decent thing they have ever done) and praise it. It is nice to be presented with a tap in. He had no reply to my question as to how he can support a politician that wants to dismantle the NHS. MIL looked shocked at that. They want to be seen as thoughtful voters but the reality was clear.

MIL was surprised at my reminder of Johnson's compulsive lying and cheating. All previous cheating seemed to have been irrelevant because he hasn't cheated on Carrie. I suggested that might not the case and left it there.

Car insurance is going up because of Ecars. I asked how bodywork repairs differed but apparently that's not relevant.

Sad state of affairs.
