I don’t think his Putin gaffe is going to go away - it will stick in the craw of Democrats who are already overly sensitised to his cognitive decline. 85% of Americans say he’s too old to do another term and every sign of weakness will feed that narrative.

As @Bry Nylon said above - When the Candidate has become the story then it’s over.

The only thing that is concerning is there will be a lot of angry voters if Kamala Harris is passed over. So how would a black female candidate do against a white male - not sure the swing voters of middle America are ready for that.

The longer this drags on the more damage it is doing to the Democratic Party.
The problem Harris has is that she is perceived, rightly or wrongly, as having been appointed primarily because she is a black woman. And as they found out with Geraldine Ferraro, it doesn't help to appoint someone as a token because it upsets more people that it pleases.

Margaret Thatcher, Theresa May, and Liz Truss all found out - being a woman doesn't mean that women feel they have to vote for you. And Rishi Sunak found out - being black doesn't mean that black people feel they have to vote for you.

Not really the point though is it.

Should the current President of the US, let alone one who is running to serve for another 4 years, be making gaffes like that? Zelenskyy was good natured enough to laugh it off and it’s not about him anyway - this was a NATO summit with all the heads of states in attendance discussing Russian aggression in Europe ffs. The only story that has come out of the Summit is Biden’s questionable cognitive competency.

The optics aren’t good are they.
Not really. Especially when the other guy probably makes more gaffes, gets more names wrong and struggles to speak at times from a teleprompter while he's frothing at the gash about windmills, sinks, sharks and Hannibal Lecter. And, if, elected, will be the same age as Biden is now when he's in office.

And that's leaving out the fact he's a convicted felon - and EVERYTHING else!

What a time to be alive for the people of the good old US of A...

Trump once called Nikki Hailey "Nancy Pelosi", not once, but multiple times in the same speech.

The difference is that Trump doesn't stop to try to correct, like any normal person would, he just barrels on regardless.

Ok let’s be clear because I keep getting pushed back on that “bad optics“ comment: 🙂

Do you think I said that the optics were bad for Biden, incognisant of the fact that Trump is an even worse option for President? It is purely because Trump is all the things we have accused him of since day one of this thread that an increasing number of leading Democrats want Biden to step aside - because they believe a stronger, younger candidate would have a better chance of beating him.

However, I am not yet convinced - while I think Biden is far too old to be running for a second term I can’t think of an alternative. However, Biden’s gaffes are NOT good optics for those in the Democratic leadership who are still contemplating the best way forward here.

Btw I emailed my Democratic Party worker and journalist Aunt in Michigan in 2022 and said that I did not think Biden was the best candidate to run against Trump because his visible age weakness was a problem. It was clearly the wrong thing to say at the time but I think with 87% of Democrats feeling that now, my argument had some merit in retrospect.

WTF? I was AGREEING with you :lolol:

The rest of it was TL;DR if I'm honest.

It my post was TLDR for you, can I suggest you conduct your social interaction about politics on TikTok or X - those platforms seem much better equipped to support users who can only cope with one sentence. 😝

You weren’t exactly agreeing with me, you followed up your ‘not really’ with the proviso that Trump was much worse than Biden which was stating the obvious to me. That wasn’t the point of my post.

The point is whether Biden is much worse than any other candidate the Democrats can come up with.

Democratic donors are reportedly freezing funding to the Democrat campaign in protest and meetings are going on at a high level so that question still needs to be addressed:

Yeah, cheers for the patronising reply and complete mis-read of what I was saying. If anything, I'm leaning towards 'they're both as bad as each other' and highlighting the sorry state of affairs.

You seem to often get hung up on the smallest things people say, or just interpret them incorrectly and then end up going on the attack.

Not for me, I'm afraid - so let's leave it there.

Why have you turned this into a personal argument? Can you not cope with a difference of opinion? Read my original post again, you completely ignored the smiley emoji for one thing.

We were talking about my initial “optics look bad for Biden“ comment and you came back with a “yes, but …”

So when I tried to explain that Trump’s suitability was not the point of my original post, but the question is one about the Democrats, (in a perfectly civil way btw) you retorted rudely with a TLDR. Why?

I may have autism but I was not getting hung up on anything here nor did I misinterpret you - you took umbrance because you thought I was having a go at you when I actually was not - however you using the knowledge you have that I am neurodivergent to gaslight me and accuse me of being the one that is overreacting here is not how this works

(I realise now why I had had you on my ignore list previously, I had forgotten until now - sorted 😎)

Elderly people often have “senior moments” - goodness, I do too and I’m only 38. The difference is I’m not President of the *ahem* “free world”.

This is really, really bad.

He absolutely has to go ASAP to give his replacement time to even have a shot at running a last-ditch campaign.

Biden is just one tumble and broken hip away from an even bigger disaster. A personal one for him.

I think this campaign could kill him. He needs to go, by force.

That's not fair, or accurate in my opinion, and quite imflammatory to the poster.

I enjoy reading your posts and opinions most of the time, and I generally agree with a lot of it, but let's not forget that you also jumped on me and my posts out of nowhere only a week or so ago, resulting in a tit-for-tat between us, for no good reason.

Not wishing or attempting to stir the pot at all, but I thought it was worth pointing that out, and hoping for a balanced and polite debate/discourse, remembering that this topic in general can be quite sensitive for people all over the world.

I'm not sure why I'm doing this, but:

You wrote:
'The optics aren’t good are they.' (I'm assuming that was a question?) and I replied with 'Not really', as in 'no, the optics aren't good', hence me agreeing with you.

All I was doing was pointing out that the alternative isn't great. Maybe it's worse, maybe it's not - let's face it, who knows anymore?

Why did I write 'TL;DR'? Because your post was too long and I didn't want to read it because it started going on about a misunderstanding that wasn't there!

Ignore away

I genuinely didn't read that far down.

I wasn't trying to 'gaslight' or 'accuse' you of anything @Zeberdi - I just wrote a post on a facking Internet forum.

Apologies for any offence caused, I'll leave you be.

Are you Donald Trump? This is exactly what he must be saying.
Biden really needs to clear his head and drop out of this race before he lets the gobshyster back in.

Trump is a racist criminal pervert. Biden is a senile confused old man. I don’t want either of them. Dreadful state of affairs.

It's been a weird NSC for 12 months or more. I've been ridiculed for being left of centre by a number of the repitious posters who now control the forum.
**** them and don't read Zeberdi,'s posts and accept the rest is also sterile bollocks.

It feels like a while since I've seen you post on here!

It's been a few years, but I'm sure we met up for a couple of park runs and maybe a game at the Amex apx. 10 years back?
