The Torys absolutely need to tack away from the loony right.

If the local Tory candidate is a moderate rather than a swivel eyed headbanger then for the good of the Tory party and the country they need to have more influence on the Tory party. So moderates need to fill the Parliamentary Tories.

So there is also a tactic to vote for a moderate to drag the Tory party back to the centre.

I would never, ever vote tactically. It's cheating. If the person I vote for doesn't get in, that's fine. If other voters want someone else, I accept that's the process.

The membership have the final say on who their leader is. Their MPs will whittle down which two go forward to the membership. How shall we put it, the membership haven't exactly made the wisest of decisions. And you do have to wonder not only how many MPs they'll have in the next parliament and, more importantly, what the profile is.
