Wieffer absolutely the man for that moment and he did what every sub should do, make his case for a start.

But i'm going to urge caution. In my view he's still well behind the level Baleba is at. We know Wieffer can tackle, but can he progress us up the field? That's what I think is keeping him down at around 4th or 5th in the midfield pecking order.

Encouraging display, more minutes deserved, let's see if he can continue this upward curve

Totally different player to Baleba, though. For me, one of our big strengths is that each of our midfield players is a different profile and that allows us to flex the combinations between and within games.

Weiffer has been excellent with one major exception, which everyone jumped on. He keeps the ball, helps us control games, is strong in the tackle and good in the air.

He might not carry the ball forward 30 yards like Baleba, but that’s not why we signed him.

When Baleba went off and Weiffer replaced him I was a little anxious. No need to worry as Wieffer was terrific and has showed how much he has improved. With Gomez, Weiffer, Ayari and O'Riley when fit we have a pretty competitive midfield
Tbf, he did exactly the same when replacing Baleba twice, early on the season. Top player

He doesn't have to carry the ball. My doubt is that he doesn't seem to have much of a range of progressive passes.

As you say he has plenty of other talents, but I think when push comes to shove, he's currently behind Baleba, Ayari, Gomez and Hinsh both in the manager's thinking and I suspect most fans.

I think he needs to show his manager how he can contribute to us getting forward if he wants more than 15 min sub appearances.

He's very recently back from injury, tbf. Started & scored in the game he was injured

I’d play him ahead of Ayari every time

He's class! Full stop. Someone on here said not sure of his range of passing but his 2nd half away at Leicester was immense and put through a gorgeous pass for our second goal ( if memory serves) and had some lovely touches too, his 10min cameo yesterday was fantastic and he galvanised us for that final push, should have come on earlier and should be played more in the future, he deserves it.

Have liked Wieffer all along. Remember saying at the start of the season I thought he and Baleba would be a powerhouse centeal midfield and that would be my preferred starting two with Gomez to come on in the second half.

Jack may be a CM in the long run but we’ve got a lot of competition there and at the moment I think he is our best full back so would start him right or left back game for the rest of this season.

Some players (and managers ;) ) need a bit of time. Wieffer did struggle with the pace of the PL as many players new to the league do at the start, but he’s banging on the door m for more minutes now.
