He was a dead man walking since Golds and Sullivan took over, telling Sullivan he should watch what he says about the team merely hammered in the final nail.

One of the nicest guys in football, out of his depth in the snakepit that West Ham has become.

I'm Zola would make a decent lower division manager - he at least kept West Ham up - but I expect will go back to Italy.

I don't envy the next manager having to deal with the Sullivan/Gold double act.

Sad but inevitable.

Martin Samuel wrote a good article a while back, saying Gold and Sullivan should have sacked him when they took over (relegation was a real threat when the article was written). He was suggesting they left him in charge because he was popular, they didn't want him, didn't have faith in him, but didn't want to rock the boat when they first took over.

Steve McLaren has ditched FC Twente to join Wolfsburg, while we're on the subject of management changes. How long was he there? Surprised he's moved on so quickly but I guess that's football for you.

He was there two years, but was grossly overachieving with them. He also had to sell all of his best players last year, and the same was anticipated this summer. Wolfsburg are potentially a much bigger club, and if he managed to lead them to the top 2 in the Bundesliga they'd have a decent chance of reasonable progress in the Champions League and he could find himself linked with a big job in England/Italy/Spain. I think you've got to strike while the iron is hot, best of luck to him.

He's going to have to perfect another accent now!

The EPL loses another legend, it will be a poorer place without him.
