Zamora will end Spurs pain - Parris

Bobby Zamora can put the smiles back on the faces of Tottenham fans, according to Brighton-based former West Ham full-back George Parris.
Parris believes Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle carried out some good business when he signed Zamora for £1.5m earlier this month.

"I live in Brighton and I watched Bobby quite a bit in the past two seasons and I always felt it would be only a matter of time before a bigger club snapped him up," said Parris.

"Goalscorers are hard to come by and Bobby's record is impressive so he deserves a chance at the highest level - you never know until you get that opportunity and I am sure he will do well.

"Whenever I spoke to Bobby he always came across as being very level-headed and I am sure once he settles in at Spurs he will prove to be a good acquisition."

Zamora, still 22 and a Tottenham fan, bagged 76 goals in 146 appearances in his time at Brighton. He kicked off his Spurs career in style with a debut double in a friendly win at Oxford United.

"Once Bobby gets used to the pace of the Premiership I see no reason why Spurs fans won't take to him," added Parris. "He is the kind of striker who is not afraid to miss, and if he doesn't score from his first few chances he still wants the ball, and that is a big attribute.

"He is a left-sided player and I am sure he can complement the likes of Robbie Keane. Only time can tell but it looks like a good bit of business for Spurs."

Hoddle took his time before he finally landed Zamora, but feels the player has developed well.

The Tottenham boss - currently leading his team on a tour of South Africa - said: "We'd been monitoring him for a very long time. I saw him a lot last year and I feel he's matured now, he has the experience in the England Under-21s and has great attributes for a striker.

"He's so young as well and at £1.5m it's great business for the club for the future."

Zamora is keeping his feet on the ground and added: "Now I'm here I've a simple target - play a few games and score a few goals. It will be tough to step up but I'm young and I will learn. Hopefully it will all come good and I'll score goals for Tottenham."
