Small snippet in the News of the World.

Obviously, he must still be under contract but Etherington, Carrick, Reo Coker and ZAMORA unlikely to be offered new deals because of cash problems at West Ham.

Why would he be offered a new deal when he only got a contract in January.

Sounds to me like he missed out on a pay rise but that is all.

Read it as you will...

******************************

West Ham player of the year Matthew Etherington is set for a shock move to Fulham after failing to win a new upton park contract.

The former Tottenham star was stunned when boss Alan Pardew told him that cash problems after defeat by Crystal Palace in the Division One play-off final ruled out a fresh deal.

England midfielder Michael Carrick, Nigel Reo-Coker and Bobby Zamora are in the same position.

******************************

In the UNLIKELY event that Bobby did return to the Withdean, Leon would love to play alongside him.

Somebody I know ask him that very question.

Ain't gonna happen though is it.

I doubt that Bobby would want to come back even if we could afford him.

Me neither. The mans pride is at stake and coming back here is like admitting he is a failure.

Though he was always liked here, and if he came back we would almost certianly stay up and he could carry on his hero status

Unless his current form with the hammers improves he may end up in Div 2 . Not a lot of clubs win Prem/Div 1 will be interested , as he is not currently the player he was for us

Lets be honest, he's hardly set the world alight in either

1. England U 21 games when he looked very average
2. Spurs - when he did play looked very average
3. West Ham - after a promising start soon looked very average

I think he will hardly to inundated with offers or people falling over themselves to sign him up.

His market value is now £ 500 000 max and he needs to be realistic about his wage potential.

Leicester City on £ 4k a week is my best guess.

All along I thought BZ was going to the wrong team when he joined Spurs, sadly on this occasion I was proved right, I just thought that the turmoil there could ruin his career and the whole set up was not geared to make the most of his talent. Ironically I think that West Ham could be the right team for him to flourish with, pity if the story in todays press is correct.

As to him coming back to Brighton, I would certainly welcome his return and I am sure the majority on NSC would do likewise, nobody could fault him being ambitious and wanting to play in the Premiership and I am sure we are all sad that it didn't work out. If he ever rejoined us I would hope it would mean re-uniting with old friends, they welcome you with open arms when things go wrong, they certainly don't criticise.

The fans funded Rod Thomas, I think bringing BZ back might stretch us a bit, mind you we brought RT in on gates of 3k, if you could harness the 30k who went to the Millennium then it might just be possible.

I think any of the three previous Albion managers to have worked with him - Adams, Taylor, or Coppel - would be extremely interested in having him. A player that knocks in goals at that rate under your command is always a draw.

So maybe a big earning move to Hull? Possible.

I know a guy that does a lot of PR for Spurs and he said that once Hoddle was given the "Spanish Archer" it was basically the end for Bobby, apparently Platt hardly spoke to him !

As for would I have him back - yes in an instant although I would hate for him to not perform for us and lose his hero status amongst Albion fans.

???
