Best 12 I can't see mentioned and in no particular order (well, maybe number one)

1. On the Waterfront (amazed that's not there)
2 Paths of Glory Classic Kubrick.
3. Dr Strangelove Ditto.
4. Brighton Rock (original version of course)
5. Notorious. One of Hitchcock's finest.
6. Goldfinger. The best Bond film with the original and best Bond.
7. Great Expectations. David Lean before he went all epic.
8. To Have and Have Not. Bogart and Bacall.
9. Judgement at Nuremberg. With the great Spencer Tracy and Judy Garland.
10. High Noon. Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly directed by Fred Zinneman.
11. The Entertainer. Fantastic performance by Laurence Olivier.
12. Kes. Really not mentioned?

Just the Westerns tonight

Once Upon a Time In The West
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
A Fistful of Dollars
For a Few Dollars More
Unforgiven
The Outlaw Josey Wales
Pale Rider
High Plains Drifter
Two Mules for Sister Sarah
The Magnificent 7
Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid
The 3:10 to Yuma

Pretty much anything with Clint Eastwood in it, and nothing with John Wayne in it.
Blazing Saddles, will be in my best 12 comedies.

Arsenic and Old Lace (original Alec Guinness version) - Alec Guinness possibly my favourite ever actor.

Such a virtuoso performance from Alec Guiness that he played Cary Grant throughout the whole film, a bit like Tony Curtis in Some Like It Hot. I do agree with you about Alec Guiness, tho. You can make a pretty passable Top 12 from films he was in, and to prove the point

1 Great Expectations
2 Bridge On The River Kwai
3 Star Wars
4 Dr Zhivago
5 Lawrence Of Arabia
6 The Lavender Hill Mob
7 Kind Hearts And Coronets
8 The Ladykillers
9 Tunes Of Glory
10 Oliver Twist
11 The Man In The White Suit
12 Damn The Defiant

Really difficult

Shawshank Redemption
Usual Suspects
Sleepers
The Bank Job
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Notting Hill
American Pie
Empire of the Sun
Jerry Maguire
A Few Good Men
As Good as it Gets
Raiders of the Lost Ark

From a story perspective I quite liked Harry Potter as well!

There are probably others I’ve forgotten.

Boring By Sea
Team America World Police

Goodfellas

Carlito's Way

Cape Fear

Austin Powers

Carry On Cleo

Independence Day

Drive

The Dead Zone

What We Do In The Shadows

Empire Strikes Back

Cell 211

It's way too difficult to pick a top 12 so I just thought of 12 films that I could happily watch over and over again. There's loads more but these will do.

Great to see a carry on film in there. My choice would be Carry On Cabby though
