[Albion] Your smallest ever away crowd (that you were part of).

Sunderland in Sep 1977. We won 2-0 (Wardy and Piper, I think) and went top of Division 2. Despite this momentous result, there were only about 50 Albion fans in the away end, there was so much space around us - a bit of a shock after the confines of the North Stand.

I remember the shock of walking to the ground from the station, it looked like the land that time forgot, I did get bought a pint in Newcastle by Geordie, who was delighted that the Mackems had lost.

I think you have underestimated the number of Albion fans at that game.
I went up on the Seagull Special train, and there must have been at least 300 on that.
It was a very unpleasant walk back to the station, the Sunderland fans weren’t happy.

Huddersfield away Wednesday evening Flash Walker scored.

Not too sure how many of us were there but it wasn't a silly low number as others can quote.

Midweek away at Newcastle circa 1992. We had a small section of the then demolished end behind the goal. I literally counted the number of Albion fans and it was 150 tops. But Mark Gall scored and we won 0-1!!!

Tuesday 20th October 1987 away at Springfield Park (Wigan Athletic) I was one of about 30 that witnessed a 3-3 draw, it was fecking freezing.
All at Stockport in 1994 3-0 loss when that giant played for them, the away support was no more than 100

Swansea away late nineties on a Friday night. 2-2 and Ross Johnson scores his only two goals for the club in the same game. You could count the people and it was sixty something from memory.

Yup, I was one at the Vetch. I thought blimey there's only about 12 of us, so counted and I counted 50 including a couple at the burger place at the back! Lived in England in those days so it was a trek.

Halifax 15th November 1975. We won 3-1 I think Gerry Fell scored 2. We travelled in a mini bus from worthing.

1978ish midweek game at the Victoria Ground Stoke for Gerry Ryan’s debut. I doubt there were more than 20 Albion fans there. It was a draw and I think Maybank may have scored for us.

Grim day playmouth away. We won 3-0. Codner x2 and Nogan. Probably about 1993.

Yep, I was at that one. Grim day in December having lost the previous 9 away games on the trot (or some equally depressing statistic). One of Codner's was from the halfway line after a poor clearance from their keeper and we also had a 4th goal disallowed (Kevin Macgonagle?). There were surely less than 30 of us there

Do remember a match at the Goldstone with a tint away following. It was a Friday night, March 1985 and Oldham only had 3 fans in the NE terrace

I’m not sure that this one counts but I’ll go for it anyway. Saturday, April 2001, against Halifax. Me, my daughter and the groundsman! We were then informed by said groundsman that the game was off because of a waterlogged pitch. We had travelled up from Southampton so we’re totally unaware of any cancellation announcement.

March 1992 away to Grimbsy on a freezing Tuesday night. We won 1-0 when Clive Walker scored. Can't remember how many of us made it up there, but remember having virtually the whole of the stand to myself and my friend who travelled up from Anglia Uni for the night. I think we still got relegated that season too! The chips in the local chippy were ace though!

Barnsley away, League Cup 1981. Lost 4-1. Until the arrival of NSC I'd swear me and my mate were the only two Brighton fans there, but I now know El Pres and about 30 others were also there. We got there late, couldn't find an away end, so we went in with the home fans. Never saw our goal, never heard/saw any Brighton, hence my original belief.

And this wasn't a pre-season, or from the Archer era, this was when we were in the old 1st division (Barnsley were in the division below), and it was only a few years since our 'glory' runs in the League Cup. What a difference from Forest away when thousands wanted to get there. It was very depressing for lots of reasons.

Weymouth friendly maybe. Although given the proximity, a Mickey Mouse cup game at Craven Cottage only had about 40 of us.

Blackburn as short a time ago as 2013. Evening match, perishing cold - ice on the cobbled streets coming from the station. Around 120 of us to see Spanish Dave equalise with a penalty - which was our first shot on target (and last kick of the match).

Indeed it was probably the coldest for a game I have been to. This was a re-arranged game original called off very late resulting in a number of us diverting to Accrington where their game was played.

Norwich away, November 1989 Zenith Data Systems Cup. Lost. 5-0. Yes, five effing nil. I think we counted 47 of us in total.

Our late friend Rotty (RIP) had a bit of toilet trouble and the bloke in front of me on the terraces had been to their club shop and bought some brand new Norwich City knickers. After the fifth went in we did the conga around the away end with him wearing the knickers on his head.

Last train out of Norwich, walk from Liverpool St to Victoria as the tubes had stopped, overnight train to Gatwick, sneak in to the back of the check in area and sleep for 2 hours, first train back, home about 6am. Oh, and it was my birthday.

Absolutely typical of our days out back then and wouldn't have changed a thing.

Similar for me. Nothing clearly sub-200 with the Albion but lots of 2-300.

Love the refrence to THREE Oldham fans on the NE corner terrace at The Goldstone . Begs the question of how easy it is to measure accurately a tiny away following? There were no doubt a few Oldham fans in seats (including the club entourage) and possibly a couple standing with friends in Albion areas... but THREE is still a great number.

I once went with a friend to watch Peterborough at Walsall in the Sherpa Van Trophy (R1). There were thirteen of "us" on the away end terrace behind the goal at Fellows Park...

Indeed. I too was on the Seagull Special and it was full as usual. (It got bricked after the game as well iirc). This was in the era when I went to every game, home and away, and that was no way the worst attended.

Slightly O/T, but there was a huge drop-off in away support once we reached the top division. I remember our first trip to Liverpool and it really was a case of spot the Brighton fan. And as my post (#54) proves by the time we'd been there a few years (and struggled) the desire to travel to away games had all but totally evaporated.
