Never really heard of too many nicknames about our school, I never had one but I do remember a chap called " Gruffer " Brown who was renowned for his ability to fart on demand.[/QUOTE

I knew Gruffer, a good lad.

I haven't seen him for years.

When I first joined the Navy, Bulldog.
In account of having a severely broken nose, being quite short and squat, and a Navy number 1 cut. I must admit, even I could see the resemblance.

My school days coincided with The Muppets coming on TV.

I got called Kermit due to large eyes and skinny arms.

Later in life the large eyes were a plus point. The skinny arms not so much.

I hated the name at the time but I look back now and quite like it and find it really funny.

Haggis.

And trying to explain that in French when I was on a french exchange trip was not easy.

At Senior School once they found out one of my middle names was Disdale (family name from my Fathers side) initially I got the piss ripped out of me, but they got bored and shortened it to Dizz which stuck with me until my late teens. I didn't mind as it wasn't derogatory and even had it emblazoned on my Lambretta's fly screen.

Never ever had a nickname, my personal hatred of slang names ment that anyone who thought otherwise was immediately blanked

Not Whitehawk, but Stanley Deason.

Ahh right, thanks for getting back to me, it's just I spent a term at Whitehawk (1969ish) and there was a kid there called John James, he was in my class, he had really prominent Ginger hair and ended up with the very obvious nickname of "Rusty" James, I saw your surname in your avatar and was putting 2 + 2 together, clearly I have just made 5!! :) :)

No problem, with regards to the nickname not to sure how I got it, I don't have ginger hair, it was black back in the early 80's when I was at school, although it's more grey now. By the way, my user name is my daughter and son name.

How come you only spent one term at Whitehawk, and are you from there?
