We lost 5-1 (Mark Hateley hat-trick), it pissed down all match and we were soaked as Away end was uncovered. The police kept us in for 30 minutes after in the rain in the assumption that the Pompey mob would disperse, then went off to their wagons as shifts finished.

Pompey had not dispersed and kicked the shit out of us en route to the station.

TBF PPF I cold day in Oldham with sleet doesn't narrow the days down very much. Checking the records in 1986 we played them in September at Boundary Park so you are probably right in terms of the weather.

Wasn’t that the day that Albion supporters played Oldham supporters on the plastic pitch before the game. I Seem to recall we won 1-0 and a certain yet to be football finance expert came on as a late sub, scored, went bananas, and then found out the goal was disallowed.

Around 89-90 at home to Pompey. People from both sets of supporters occasionally spilling out on to the pitch to throw punches at each other, especially at the south end. I was 11/12ish and found it very exciting.

I, too, was at that game. I remember that they played a recording of the commentary of all the goals on the P.A. after the game - b*****ds!

P.S. Was that the game that Willie Young played for us - or gave a poor imitation of it?

It was indeed. Only consolation is I think he never played again.

The following year Justin Fashanu scored the winner I think and the SCENES contained moments of marvel.

I was at the game too . Remember leaving Brighton and the weather was ok sort of jumper weather got to pompey and it lashed down my jumper ended up being a third longer that it was at the start of the day. I was in with pompey ( i wanted to be undercover and couldnt get in our end)but got sussed and was escorted round the pitch to our end and got continously coined . The result was not as bad as it could of been we deserved to loose by double figures. Yes i remember the tannoy playing the goals again toss pots.

Oh, OK then, I will give up trying to bring people together, and just join the ranks of the other warriors on here - x is good, y is bad, end of. That works well, as does your sarcasm in the face of a sincere attempt to show that everything is not as polarised as it appears to be on social media and in people's fevered minds. Even El Pres has said that PPF has seemed pleasant when he met him. Dark and light together - uncomfortable and messy, but often true. Hey ho.

Trying to remember the year we played at Fratton Park when it must have been one of the first games of the season as I remember it was quite warm (possibly 1991?). As typical Bohemian Brighton types, my friend (who is blond) was wearing a salmon pink Lacoste shirt and white shorts, and I was wearing a hooped Breton fisherman's top and had a full moustache. As we left the ground we encounterd a Pompey mob and thought we were going to get a kicking; instead they wolf-whistled us. Oh well, it may have damaged out masculine egos a bit, but at least we came out unscathed.
