Brighton V Bournemouth early in the 70s on Boxing day loads of arrests in the ground. Probably many others around or before that time but I guess that sticks out as does a villa game that year.

the roughest were two games in 1975 at Burnley with them playing Blackburn and Liverpool..

The Bournemouth game was played on the 27th as Boxing Day (26th) fell on a Sunday. Me and my pal were driving back from a party in Bognor when we passed dozens of coaches of B’muff fans. As we passed each one we waved, they waved back followed by a flurry of w*nker signs and two fingered up yours gestures from us. Oh the little things in life that give so much pleasure!

Simon Dobbin, 41, of Mildenhall, was put on a life support machine after he and a friend were attacked near Southend's Railway pub at about 7.20pm on Saturday.

His family are at his bedside and the community in Cambridge and Mildenhall have rallied together to support them.

Essex police said two men were arrested on suspicion of GBH following a disturbance between football fans which left a man with serious head injuries.

Went to Millwall mid sixties when I was about 14. People having pots and pans confiscated - basically anything 5hey could hit someone with. Came out the ground and every single car in the road I walked down had a window smashed in. Not sure if it ever got any better. Remember the play off semi there - like a bunch of rabid dogs snarling at the Brighton fans from behind their cages.

Being around in the 70's hooliganism was just an accepted thing at away games. But in reply to your post, for some unknown reason I smacked a gooner on the chin who was stood in 'my spot' on the East terrace at that game. Only time I've hit anyone. Hope it was the guy that smacked you.

Hope so, he was pissed as ********s. Another thing I remember about that was some lofty skinhead/ baldy in their end getting some abuse.

TBF PPF I cold day in Oldham with sleet doesn't narrow the days down very much. Checking the records in 1986 we played them in September at Boundary Park so you are probably right in terms of the weather.

Got mixed up with the cup game in 90 as pointed out by Brighton lines

Must have been around 1972. Pat Saward era. About 6 Gillingam lads 'took' the North.

The North Stand could be embarrassing - too many silly kids running away (I guess that is why a separate mob started in the South Stand).

However, despite those embarrassments at home, around that time Brighton could cause problems away. Does anyone remember Southend away, around 1974 I think? The behaviour of Brighton supporters made it on to News at Ten; there was a boisterous group of around 500 in the big away terrace. I believe it was the following year I was at Gillingham, and this time Brighton were in the Gillingham end. They didn't take it completely and ended up with police separating the two groups of fans.

Albion fans on this forum seem to divide into three groups: those who abhor all violence and always have, those who were not hooligans but were occasionally around the fringes and remember the unique feeling of adrenaline / fear, and those who readily partook in the shenanigans. I want to believe that even the people in the last category are basically good guys and would not take part in or condone the savage beating of innocent people (for example, I am sure that a couple of them who post on here, who I will not name, would not hesitate to say that). Anyone who does that is in a different category (and it happens away from football as well), and is a pure c**t.

I think PPF would do himself a lot of favours if he would come out and say something like "yes, I was involved in football hooliganism, and am still interested in it, but I would never take part in, or condone, attacking and beating innocent people". I honestlly think this is what Das thinks, but until he declares it, his enemies will continue to get more vitrioloc about him. Even HWT may calm his views if he did this.

West Ham at home 80/ 81? It seem like about 20 West Ham got in the North stand and remember people jumping into empty section next to the away fans and over the fence onto the pitch until they realised how many there were and then started jumping back in again .
Also some nutty **** just standing at the entrance on the way out with his fist clenched waiting for someone to have a go.

Nastiest iv'e ever seen actually involved Brighton , small mob of Huddersfield ran a handful of Brighton only to find they had been lead into a well planned trap , hemmed in from both ends of the street then set upon by 2 separate groups of Brighton , by the time the police got there the street was strewn with bloodied bodies , iv'e never felt scared for my own safety before that or since when attending a football match , obviously i'm going back to the 80s here and from memory not that i was involved , Brighton back then had a formidable well organised group of people well up for anything against anybody that wanted it .

There seemed to be a who were the hardest group rivalry in the town , The Bosun and The Lamb and Flag then there were the Hove pubs who seemed to club together ambushing the away fans as they exited the station , i used to go to the Eclipse on matchday and whilst it had a few complete loons in the main it was a place i knew that i wasn't going to get caught up in any bovver , my memory fades but i seem to remember a massive pitched battle at the bottom of west Street involving Arsenal , from nowhere a huge group of Brighton ran them down onto the beach and had them penned in the underpass , so before we pin the hooligan tail on the Millwalls of this world we certainly had our own nasty element .

First few away games when younger were the days of us taking large away followings and being targeted by many in the lower leagues. 2000-2004. First ever game was Lincoln away when some of their lads celebrated their goal in our end - I even remember a middle aged women smacking one round the head.

My second away game was Chesterfield - bern documented already that was a livey day!

Then Plymouth, Shrewsbury, Swindon , Bristol City, Cardiff all lively the seasons after.,

Having watched football since 1998 and missing the 70’s/80’s the worst I’ve seen was Arsenal at Cardiff - final FA Cup match at Ninian Park. Arsenal had a 4000 allocation and a huge older turnout, bricks, front walls being broken down to throw, road signs, all the way back to the station.

Fratton Park 1984.

We lost 5-1 (Mark Hateley hat-trick), it pissed down all match and we were soaked as Away end was uncovered. The police kept us in for 30 minutes after in the rain in the assumption that the Pompey mob would disperse, then went off to their wagons as shifts finished.

Pompey had not dispersed and kicked the shit out of us en route to the station.
