Probably less. They find one or two whilst surveying a large region and then extrapolate that over the mountainous area.
Only TEN are known to exist in the wild.
Completely agree, they are stunning creatures.
My local zoo Marwell have just bred three snow leopard cubs, gorgeous little things.

For me its a tie between Snow Leopards and Tigers. Both struggling to avoid extinction and the sooner someone tells the Chinese that Tiger bones are not medicinal in any shape or form the better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
