NSC's Most Stalked
after another cracker intoday's Argus

"We have nothing to prove. This is a game we can go out and enjoy. It's all set up as a big one for them but we are the champions, they can't get us.

They can do nothing to influence our season. We have proved we are the best team in the league. The table never lies. I say that now we are champions and I said it last season when we were in the bottom four.

It doesn’t matter if we are beaten 10-0. It's not a two team competition between us and Southampton, it's a 24 team league."

My personal favourite is
"We are Brighton and we've got an identity. We play one way - it doesn't matter where or against who."

"All I am saying is that he cannot have it given to him both ways. Like we say in Montevideo, 'the chicken might be in the pot, but the feathers they are still in the roost'. So how can he give us that decision ? You tell me how he can see what he saw, what we all saw, and yet give nothing ? You will have to ask him. I'm not allowed to speak this".

On one of the Five Live interviews back in December/January he was asked what he thought about Southampton chasing us and he said quite simply and boldly "I DON"T CARE".

I also really like "Eees Complicated" because it seems to fit as a response to so many questions. It's the equivalent of Father Jack (in Father Ted) saying "That would be an ecumenical matter" whenever he was asked a question by the three visiting Bishops.

"I, Gustavo Augusto Poyet Domínguez, am pleased to announced that during talks into the small hours of yesterday, I was able to reunite North and South Korea. It was complicated, but we worked together to forge a new friendship and understanding".

‘I always aim for the best and the best is to be top but you need to be realistic and think of the teams in the division who spend big, big money. When you spend big money you are supposed to have the best players, and when you have the best players it should be easier to win football games.

‘Once you set up your own team and create an identity and the players start believing, it becomes about more than just money.’

Theees eeeeez vary complicated

“I am delighted that me and Tanno now know we are going to be here for at least four years, if everything goes well."

"This is another challenge for me to take the club where everybody in Brighton wants to be and that's in the Championship.
Being realistic I think 18 months is possible. If that is the goal of the club it's no problem."

Box ticked after 14 months of some of the most sublime football

This, by a mile. Brilliant, brilliant quote.

Didn't he saying something about "you need to have the ball in order to score a goal" when he first joined? I remember people laughing at it as a bit of a Colemanball at the time but he's gone and enacted exactly that.

The quote about there only being one ball in football, and how it's an easier game if you have it, which he came out with when he first joined! I'm too lazy to find it!

This thread is amazing though, I love Gus!

The Seagulls’ build-up from the back was greeted with shouts of ‘forward’ and ‘rubbish’ by some supporters during the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.

Poyet said: “I don’t listen to that. If they want Brighton to change their style of play, being at the top, they need another manager. It doesn’t matter what they shout, the team will play the way I want.

“It’s my team, I pick the players, it is my responsibility being top or bottom, not theirs. I respect their opinion. I didn’t have a problem with that when I was a player and I hope my players don’t. If they panic they won’t play, that’s for sure.

“If somebody starts kicking it because the fans shout they are going to be out of the team.”

I was lucky enough to chat with the great man at the sponsors dinner and some of the things he said were GOLD.

Talking about SCC (Who he seemed to genuinely hate I might add):

"They say they play football like we do. They don't play football like we do. They boot it to the two best strikers in the league! Once they're in the box THEN they start to play football."

And my favourite, speaking about how difficult Adkins job was at SCC, he said:

"If I went to Southampton at the beginning of this season I'd say ok, let's agree a fee, now if we don't go up as Champions, I don't want paying..."

What a man
