How did I miss that BHA incident? It's a penalty all day day I'm afraid. But there was a similar incident last season in a European game with Arsenal where the ref said it would spoil the game giving a penalty.

With the Brighton one, to me it looks like the ball went outside that inner D bit, which is where the ball needs to be for a goal kick. So when the defender picks up the ball, it's not in play. Right?
Not sure what you mean by inner 'D'? Are you referring to the 6 yard box (know as the goal area in the Laws of the game)? I was at Newcastle and thought we were extremely lucky to get away with it because it's a penalty all day long. For a goal kick, the ball just needs to be kicked, it doesn't need to leave any particular area (other than it has to start within the goal area).

It has to start within or touching the 6 yard box, doesn't it?

In the clip above it looks like it's outside the 6 yard box for both of the 2 "moments" (the pick up and the pass) before the goalie gets to it.

Therefore no penalty, right?

I see it that Bart rolls the ball and it stops on the line. Igor then passes it to Hinsh (which is when the ball is now back in play) who picks it up and throws it back to Bart. If the ball was outside the goal area when Igor kicked it then I agree it wasn't a pen but from where I was in the stand, it looked on the line, as I believe it does in the video.

As far as I'm concerned, regardless of rules or consistency or fairness, owing to the fact we conceded a penalty once after the final whistle had blown both Toon and Villa can get f**ked with their whining.
As frustrating as it was, the penalty was conceded before the final whistle!

Hard to tell but when Bart rolls it, it looks like it goes beyond the line to my untrained eye. So I don't believe it's in play for the next 2 motions. But who knows.

Well it was in front us in that stand behind the goal and if it had it rolled outside of the goal area then we would have been able to tell. At the time I commented that I thought it was a pen and we got away with one.

I hadn’t seen that one at Newcastle but looks a penalty to me. Clubs will need to be telling their players not to use their hands when delaying restarts with these goal kick routines as there is bound to be a few more penalties given now.

Saw this all over the place a month ago from a 2. Bundesliga game with the exact same thing happening plus another odd handball in the same game.
