Finally got round to watching this last night, golly is it long! Anyway, I need summat clearing up. When Noodles is invited to Senator Bailey's (Max's) bash at the end does he know it's Max? Or not? How could he not?

Hmmm?

Yes he does know it's Max. It's when Noddles walks outside and the garbage truck comes along that it becomes a bit make your own mind up.
Is it a simile about Noddles avoiding the last 35yrs of garbage that Max has had as a gangster, or has Noodles had Max dealt with, or can't he be bothered.
I suppose the ending you imagine has a bearing on your own personality.

personally think you're reading too much into it, max tops himself because he knows he will be topped before he gets to court , he hasnt been a gangster for the last 35 years anyway, hes been a corrupt politician/businessman.

I love most of the Sergio Leone films i've seen but didn't really get the fuss about this, much prefer the Dollars trilogy or Once Upon a Time In The West

Righto! I'm a bit dim with films sometimes, plus it was 3 hours in!

The film certainly is scored excellently.

Having had this discussion with different mates. What I said was, "it's make your own mind up time."
Discuss with 5 people and you get 5 different answers.

theme from the good the bad and the ugly is my favourite, plus cockeyes song from once upon a time in america.

I HATE panpipes...

Have you noticed that the music 'Il Trio' - the three-way draw scene at the end of The Good, The Bad & The Ugly is being used more and more in movies and on TV. It's a kind of music box tinkling, before building to a crescendo - adding to the tension - and some awesome trumpet playing, all interspersed with looking at all three protagonists' pained expressions.

I LOVE panpipes, probably a reflection of my laidback, chilled personality.

You can't build to a crescendo
