There was a case I recall where the householder hurt (stabbed I think) an intruder/burglar. If he had done it inside the house he would not have been prosecuted, but because he chased the guy down the street a little bit before stabbing him, he got taken to court. These things are very difficult to define.

i saw a film where some bloke chases a burglar then bashes him with a bat on the lawn. he goes to jail gets bummed off joins the aryan brotherhood and has loads of fights but in the end he gets let out and he goes back to his wife who has waited for him. this WILL happen.

To be fair it sounds pretty easy to define to me. In your house, potential danger, resonable force = no prosecution. Chasing the robber down the street with a rottweiler and a meat cleaver = prosecution.

This is a load of bluster from all sides about a relatively small amend to the law, which works perfectly well as it stands in almost all cases.

Well, it wounds simple in theory, but if you have been terrorised in your house, I can well imagine anger alone might make you pursue the intruder - you may even think he's, say, going to his car to fetch a weapon. If writing laws was easy, they would be cut and dried, but it never is.

Came home today to find window and back door wide open! spent ages creeping round the house with my old cosh in hand!:moo: Blooming fatballboy had not taken a key out and had climbed through the window but forgot to lock up after!!! i had told him half a hour before that a burglar had been sniffing around a few doors down!:eek:Its amazing the creeks you hear when you are pooping it:facepalm:

I cannot believe this idea of stabbing somebody could ever be construed of using minimum force. If you ;picked up a cricket bat, walkin g stick or similar to defend yoyurself yes but if you go to the cupbaord and geta knife out you have one intention and that is not to defend yourself but to hurt the perpertrator of the break in. I would like to know how you are supposed to defend yourself using a knife. At least with a cricket bat or walking stick you could disarm a burglar but not with a knife.

there are millions of nutters up and down the country just champing at the bit for this. i bet some mad cnts will be leaving front doors open with suitcases full of cash tellies and ipods all up the hallway, whilst lying in wait above the door like f***ing Kato.

Perhaps such 'nutters' have criminal records themselves, and that will be taken into account by the law if their remote plan works and they hurt someone.

For the other normal majority, nothing has changed. No one knows what they would do in that unexpected instant.

That is brilliant - can I check are you allowed to use chainsaws on burglars?

Isn't that like saying deliberately running someone over with an articulated lorry has the same intent to harm as punching them?

Somewhat different good chance of being killed if run over by a lorry but not likely unless very iunlucky from a punch. My point originally was that if anybody went to a draw to get a knife they are going intent on stabbing and harming somebody not defending themself.
