You are in goal and facing a free kick to be taken by the best player in the world. Wouldn't you be dancing around on your line getting into the best position, ensuring that you could see the ball all the way fron his boot, organising the wall in front of you, and shoutiing encouragement at your team mates?
Then why was David James wandering around aimlessly before and during the kick and then left statuesque as the ball flew into the net complaining that he saw it too late?

we are all experts in hindsight. yes he should have trusted the wall to guard the laft side of the goal levaing him to concentrate on the right but you have to admit, everyone thought zidane was going to dip it over the wall and so did he. it was just a great freekick by a great player

I've never understood why people dont put men on posts in those situations. I know it means attackers can crowd the goal but those free kicks are like virtual penalties when zidane or beckham are taking them

That was one of the most obvious goals in a long time, and James has no-one to blame but himself.

Last minute of a match, freekick outside the box, Zidane taking it, obviously gonna shoot, what u gonna do?

A man on either post takes care of that and then you guard the middle of the goal for deflections etc.

Not if ur DJ, set up wall and stand behind it before being motionless as the ball flies in. Wasnt even that good a freekick in my view because he didnt have much to do.
