Fair play to the lad - obviously putting in the graft in training- had a good preseason- impressed when he came on against Everton, unlucky not to score when his effort was ruled out - not loaned out so the club obviously have faith in him - we were more of a threat when he came on for Milner yesterday - think will only get better 👍

Can I be the first to say that he should have shot to the near post? Raya had a lot of ground to make up, it would have had to travel less distance, and was the most likely place for him to score.
None of this detracts from how well he's seized his opportunity. I haven't had the highest of hopes for him, but he's been very good in pre-season and the energy and intensity he's provided from the bench this season has been hugely impressive. He made a couple of errors yesterday but, for the most part, was highly competent and in no way overawed by the occasion. His pressing and intensity was again very good, and he won the ball back a good number of times.

I would like to think he saw the keeper had committed himself by diving to the left so he tried put it across the keeper to his right 🤣
According to sky sports, He Didn't even lift his head up to see where the keeper was.
he'll learn no doubt. TB's algorithm a.i is watching him more closely now 🤣

someone who is better than Billy Gilmour, who was apparently shipped out because he's not good enough to get us to Europe.

We wanted WBG to stay, Hurzeler said in a presser. He basically demanded to leave. Wanted to team up with his mate, McThug and Conte.

Ayari had one decent PL game, jury is still out for me. WBG still miles ahead as a PL player imo, but potentially, I haven't a clue.

Definitely not going to beat on a rookie sub missing a chance at the Emirates. Have to be impressed with his development but in a few weeks he'll be some way off the first team I'd imagine. Potential though.

Yes, Yasin Ayari has improved remarkably in the last three days, going from a player most of NSC would have been happy to see loaned out to someone who is better than Billy Gilmour, who was apparently shipped out because he's not good enough to get us to Europe. Narrative bending and tinted glasses has made him go from a Championship midfielder to a semi-regular starter in a team that people expect to end up top 8 in the PL.

Very happy for him - and us - if this remains the perspective throughout the season and not only now when it is a strong desire to see every move he does as if he's the next Alexis Mac Allister.

I like Ayari and think he could become a good player, but the honeymoon factor here is very strong: imo, Ayari playing a lot of PL football is a real weakness and Wieffer/Baleba/Milner/O'Reily/Hinshelwood (and Gilmour for that matter) are all better than him by a fair margin. I'm hoping to be proved wrong and that he's super good etc. like every new/fresh player always is until they're not.

Really hope Wieffer & some left back are back after the international break. Baleba and Ayari worked really hard but none of them are able to be the "engine" on PL level. Hinshelwood or Wieffer needs to be there or contol/chance creation is going to be a problem every game.
He doesn't play the Gilmour position so not sure a comparison is fair on either player. If we had been able to bring Gilmour on instead alongside Baleba we would have had two pivot midfielders on the pitch, rather than the one pivot and one attacking midfielder that Hurzeler wanted. Just the way it is.

Like many I am surprised to see him here, surprised to see him on the pitch, and pleasantly surprised to see him doing OK. One thing that stood out to me is how much he has bulked out since we saw him last, he's really developed and that could allow him to be this season's Hinshelwood.

You're doing him a lot of favours here. What I saw was a head down panicky scuff.
I mean, yes it was a poor finish, he missed a huge target, no need for any more analysis than that.

But this is a young player , he did a very respectable job as a 20 year old against one of the best midfields in the country. He also scored a marginal disallowed goal at Goodison. The manager has faith in him and I think a part of that is he's displaying model behaviours for a young professional and Fabian wants to visibly reward that

He made it saveable for Raya. He should place it in the other corner.

His two loans last season didn't work out, but the new manager clearly likes him. He's a different profile to Wieffer/Milner/Baleba.

Probably should of scored yup,I thought he put in a really good shift when he came on,this wasn't a pre season friendly this was against one of the best teams in the EPL and he didn't look out of place at all.
I'd wager he'd be out on loan if RDZ were still here, he's obviously liked by Hurzeler so I'm good with that.
I'll have a fiver with anyone that he either scores more in one season or equals Billy's total goals scored since he was with us in one season.

I assumed that he'd be loaned out again this season, but he's clearly knuckled down over the summer and taken his chance to impress his new manager. Fair play to him

Gross scores that. But he is 33 and an experienced goalscoring pro.
Give Ayari a couple of dozen more games and he probably does too. He's dynamic, doesn't stop running and wants to get into the box.
I don't think it's even close to a given that WBG scores that chance either though, mainly because he wouldn't have been there, he'd have been 10 yards back.
