I have an Xbox and live in fear of the red lights - do they only come on if you use it for more than 24 hours straight, or can they appear willy nilly?

At Anytime,
On my boys we bought a external add on fan but this did not stop it, the problem is the soldering on the main board "loosens" when the box overheats, good ventilation and keep it as cool as possible is the best prevention.

i cant believe they are charging you that much. Are XBOX 360 did the same and we sent it to microsoft about a year ago and they charged us 45 quid for it.

Managed to get through to xbox customer services after an awful voice recognition set up they have now. Managed to cancel the £78 fee for them to fix it as I removed the hard drive before and it still didnt work, did it again and gave it a bit of a smack last night and it works. Spoke to a guy on the phone, £25 for a new 20gb hard drive, sorted.

Yep I couldnt believe it either, that was the minimum charge aswell. And because it was only one red light, not 3 red lights, it was out of warranty as they extend it to 3 years or something if its 3 red lights.
