Ummm......no.Frutos said:There's a vast difference between pre-determined and fake.
Pre-determined suggests, perfectly rightly, that they know who's going to win and who is going to lose. They know what should happen from start to finish of the show.
Fake, to me at least, suggests that what is being presented is somehow a deception. For example, if the clip I posted were 'fake', then Mick Foley wouldn't have really been thrown off of, and through, that cage, but he was.
He wouldn't have ended that match with one of his teeth lodged up his nose, but he did.
Pre-determined, yes. Fake, no.

Whatever way you dress it up, if a "sporting contest" is pre-determined to decide who wins, then it is FAKE.

Entertaining ? Perhaps
Skilful ? Certainly
A Contest ? No
Therefore, uninteresting. When bookies start giving odds, then maybe the rest of us can start taking it seriously. Till then, its down there with Emmerdale while you're waiting for the Champions League.
But soap operas are so tedious.Frutos said:There's the point, because WWE themselves don't promote it (not anymore, anyway) as a sporting contest, they call it 'sports-entertainment'.
I agree with you when you compare it to soap operas, because that's essentially what it is, except people don't get slagged off or reminded that Emmerdale is 'fake'.
Easy 10 said:But soap operas are so tedious.
Don't you prefer REAL sport ?

Well no, its not a "contest" at all.Turkey said:So what you saying is anything pre-determined is uniteresting.
It not just down there with 'Emmerdale'; its down there with 'The Lord of the Rings', 'Harry Potter', 'Doctor Who' and any other programme you consume.
Is it a contest no? Does anyone who enjoys it care? No. At the end of the day Frodo vs evil people is a contest too. Its something you can take an interest in.

If I'm watching a film, I know there's a plot guiding a storyline. But wrestling has commentators. It has shrieking americans holding up signs. It has match-ups. It has "World Title Bouts", it has box office. And its all BOLLOCKS !
Easy 10 said:OK kids, switch your brains off and enjoy. But I am genuinely disturbed by the fully grown adults I see in those crowds taking it seriously.
Arn't they a bit...scarey ?

Yeah, but I don't go to the effort of making f***ing SIGNS on flourescent cardboard to hold up, likeTurkey said:As for people taking it seriously. I don't think either of us can know that really. When we got to footy its an outlet - you swear and say/chant things you wouldnt in everyday conversation. Just because one's a contest and one isn't, doesnt make the participation in the event any different.

"Tranmere SUCK"
....perhaps I should.
