In football stadia, words are often portrayed by using different coloured seats. I expect OP is looking at the Falmer webcam; if so, maybe a link would make things clearer?

Sitting behind Tony Bloom on Saturday we were able to ask him about potential lettering within the seats and he said there were only going to be Seagulls (shapes of as opposed to the word). His poker skills may have been at work here so we'll have to wait and see.
