Sorry to bore a minority of you, but I felt a duty to inform you that Andrew Smith's pie in the sky deal to buy Wrexham FC is now officially dead.
The club has 82 days of existence left until the Footbal League AGM.
Unless a buyer is found within 54 days it is a very sad goodbye to 132 years of football and the passion of thousands of fans over those decades.
Let's hope that there is still hope, cos this could have been us, and may still be ....

I'm sorry but right now I'm thinking of our own survival.. maybe a little drunk and after another heavy defeat I don't feel like concentrating on anything but the Albion.

I said a while back that Wrexham fans should run on the pitch and get games abandoned and many, including you OTLW said the corner had been turned and it was all looking rosy. Well I say those fans better now get on that bit of grass and not let another match go past 90 mins until the WHOLE country is looking in their direction.

Sorry , but I HAVE NEVER said that. I have been sceptical of Smith's buy-out since day one and have been ridiculed on NSC for daring to say that - I thought he was a false prophet and indeed he was that.
I have also supported the type of action that we followed in 1997 .... but this ain't about me or anything like that but about the survival of league football.

reading the thread title at a glance, I was worried the former Rangers and Everton manager had passed on. :(

Slight difference Muzzy, if we go down we live ti fight another day, and probably get promoted again. Wrexham FC will completely cease to exist.

never forget Fans United

The time span is too short to find a new buyer or even to negotiate a ground share for next season*. The best option would be negotiate with Hamilton~ for an extension at the Racecourse Ground for another year.

I said all along (after afer two minutes confirming I got the right Mister Smith) that A Smith (of Bramber underwater housing plan fame) was a waste of time and would not come up with the dosh.

* Based entirely on how long it took the Albion to do this.

~ Which means invading the pitch could be suicide?

I'm sure they'll reform like Wimbledon did.

It's very sad for them though. :(

And I don't agree with Albion Dan - I think that needed to happen a long time ago to have any affect.

The latest from the Western Mail this morning:

SURREY-BASED businessman Andrew Smith's deal to buy Wrexham Football Club hit the buffers because former owner Pryce Griffiths has to be paid £500,000 if it is sold on.

Smith hoped to complete his deal to buy the club from owner Alex Hamilton several weeks ago, but the Western Mail has discovered the bid fell through because of the pay-off due to Griffiths.

It is understood Smith did not learn about the money to be paid to Griffiths until days before the deal was due to be completed. Several of Smith's backers got cold feet and pulled out.

But Griffiths yesterday insisted he has never made any secret of the sell-on clause and said it was up to Hamilton to tell Smith about its existence from the outset.

Asked whether he stood to gain £500,000 from the sale of the club Griffiths said, "That's nobody's business only mine. I'm not prepared to divulge my personal business.

"I have never made any secret of the clause and it's not something that has just come up now. It was written into the agreement three years ago when I sold the club.

"It's up to Mr Hamilton to divulge it (to prospective buyers)."

Smith is now understood to be trying to replace the investors who pulled out after details of the sell-on clause emerged.

One insider said yesterday, "When that came out of the woodwork it wasn't very helpful.

"It's an awful lot of money to be handed over. It's money that should go to the club if anywhere and it's inhibiting the club.

"That was a major problem."

But Wrexham Supporters' Trust member Pete Jones said it was up to Hamilton rather than Smith to pay the £500,000 owed to Griffiths.

Jones said the former Wrexham owner sold the club to Hamilton for the knock-down price of £57,000 on the understanding he would get a cut should the Dragons change hands again.

He said, "Everyone knows Pryce was due to be paid a percentage - that's why the club accounts show he was only paid £57,000 for Wrexham.

"Pryce's sell-on clause should have been taken into account by Hamilton. I don't think it's for Andrew Smith to pay extra.

"That should have been between Hamilton and Griffiths."

Hamilton - who was unavailable for comment yesterday - has said he is now listening to offers from other sources as Smith doesn't have the funding in place to complete the deal.

In the meantime Wrexham, who went into administration last December, have until the summer to find a new buyer or face the possibility of eviction by Hamilton.

You'd have thought Wrexham fans might have been approached to raise the £500k? ???

Smith did try that after a fashion ... by posting on Red Passion late last week asking if fans wanted to become part of the buy-out ... the post was really bizarre and so late in the day it stank of desperation.

Having now got close to Smith it is clear that the £500k is the least of his problems ... he's actually £2 million short!

Pitch invasions

We're really stuck between a rock and a hard place on this issue. Before our last home game there was an announcement that an Football League official would be at our games to monitor incursions onto the playing surface - apparently due to our celebrations at the end of the LDV Northern Final.

We were told the club has been warned that we would be penalised (probably more points) for any further invasions.

To be attractive to a buyer it's vital that we do all we can to remain in div 1, a feat which our management and team are striving to do day in day out - anything sabotaging their onfield efforts could not get my support for one.

As a commited fan of Wrexham - where will I be on saturday - CAMBRIDGE - FANS UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED

I look forward to meeting up with many of you there.
