Obviously like a few other NSC members who live in Wales we get it as a first option to Channel 4 before digital if you did not have Sky you could not get Channel 4 in many areas it was S4C only, the channel is the biggest load of shite I have never really had the pleasure of watching!! a seedy porn channel with 75 year old Milfs have a bigger viewing audience than S4C.

I have watched football on there before not through choice I can assure you as for sub titles I don't think it applies to live sport (well I've never seen it on there, probably because I have not looked either!) but if it is the only way to watch it then it will be better than nothing (JUST!!!) and as someone else said maybe a radio commentary can be used instead of listening to someone clearing their throat for 90 minutes!!!

You're a broadminded individual, eh? Are you the sort who go abroad on holiday and moan about not being able to get egg and chips?

S4C is just fine, and if you're unhappy about the content, maybe start a petition for more English taxpayers' money to be put into it. There are thousands of people, maybe not you or your peanut-hugging Hwntw friends, who speak Welsh as a first language. They think in Welsh too, so a Welsh language broadcaster like S4C is vital.

Either way, without S4C, the game wouldn't be on telly, so stop moaning. Saxon subtitles are available on live games; they certainly were for the Cambridge FA Cup game, and I've seen them on other live games too.

S4C is available in Brighton without sky, I get S4C on my freesat HD box through a sat dish

Channel 134 on a Sky box , Channel 120 on a Freesat box. If you have a Freesat box and S4C isn't on the epg you can add it manually using frequency 12129 polarity V Symbol Rate 27,500 FEC 2/3. When S4C originally launched on satellite it was automatically added to Sky customers in Wales and if you lived elsewhere in the UK you needed to phone S4C and they added you to the viewers database as it was originally "free to view" which meant the Sky card decoded the signal. S4C is a "free to air" channel but because of its listing on a Sky box , 90% of Sky customers just assume its a Sky channel when in fact its not.

p.s S4C has 2 audio carriers , primary is Welsh and secondary is English (English presumably via the RED button)

That's a good point, they had subtitles for the highlights the other day, maybe that's why it took so long to get the highlights package ready.

I can never watch a live game with the radio on because of the time delay

Does it take you a long time to find the radio? :moo:

I just switched over to S4C and there was some kiddies programme on, in welsh, there was no option to listen in english, the odd programme might have it? I don't know, sub titles do happen in english but as i say I have never seen that on live sports.

In the pubs down here say on a friday night, S4C is always on as it has Club Rugby on, no one down here speaks welsh and everyone moans about the fact the commentary is in welsh i'm sure if there was an option to listen to it in english someone would have sussed it out by now

I'm sure I watched rugby the other day with English commentary as the option

I've watched football on many channels abroad with commentary in Spanish, German, etc and it makes no odds to me. Just watch the game. The players' names are the same whatever language they're speaking. It's only the crap punditry and pointless opinions of the commentators that you won't understand, so what are you really missing?

To answer you: No I do not go abroad and moan about not being able to get Egg & Chips.

My opinion about S4C is exactly that, MY OPINION, if you don't like my opinion then do one, I really don't care, and if you consider my post to be moaning then you are very wrong, if i am wrong about sub titles on live sport then I am very sorry again I couldn’t give a flying f***!

Please do explain to me what are "peanut-hugging Hwntw friends" and if you don't want to explain again I couldn’t give a f***!
And thanks for educating me that people who speak welsh also think in welsh I feel so much better for that (and there was me thinking they must be thinking in Swahili)

And I am sure that when the funding in 2013 starts being done by the BBC it will be only a matter of time before S4C becomes virtually extinct, I expect the BBC will provide a few programmes for the welsh spitters to keep them happy.

By the way, just to clarify, I have lived in South Wales for 27 years, my daughter is welsh and very proud of it as we are, most of my friends are Welsh only one i know who was originally from North Wales is a welsh speaker even he thinks the language is a waste of space as does everyone else, it has no value whatsoever and it cost's a vast amount more for local authorities just to provide signs and everything else twice, stupidly absurd (IN MY OPINION!)

Way out west
Easy to change to English sub-titles on Sky. Just go the appropriate channel and press "Services " on the box and follow instructions. Doubt it would work for commentary as instant translation would be necessary. At least most of the adverts are in English!

Do they really think anyone will tune into to see Wolves v Birmingham after the 1st match ? Or watch a couple of noddy championship sides who can't score a goal rather than a good old non league side at home with a chance of a big upset ?

Who makes these decisions ?
ITV can sell more ad time for 2 midland teams (both with recent premier league experience) than a potential upset.
