I'd say spread betting or bookies on the sub continent, that is where most of the monkey business takes place. Remember the floodlight failure betting scams ?

When will there be a probe into league one clubs in the Brighton area getting players sent off, conceding in injury time, the keeper throwing the ball into his own net or the f***ing ref putting his boot through one into our top corner?

I suspect those chinese syndicates....anyone seen any suspicious looking foreigners hanging around our team?

There's one Chinese guy always at away games.

Their story will not be a lie, they would be sued to kingdom come if it was.

True, but their reporters, editors and lawyers are not necessarily betting experts either. The same paper labelled Kieren Fallon as "The Fixer" after his screw-up on Ballinger Ridge at Lingfield, without stopping to think why a jockey as talented as Fallon would ever want (or need) to throw a race in such an embarrassingly obvious fashion.

Journalists are just as capable as the next person of seeing and hearing what they want to see and hear.

Fair point. You've got to say that their evidence though, assuming that they are not printing a pack of lies, does seem fairly compelling.

I know, it's just the way they instigate things that gets me. It's the worst kind of devils advocate.

When they sting people with the fake sheik, they basically offer someone shit loads of money to do something morally dubious and then claim outrage when they decide to do it.

The question is - which bookies are stupid enough to offer odds on when no balls will occur?
That's not how I read the NOTW story. It's not about betting on no balls. It's about the fixer being able to prove to the NOTW undercover guy that the fixer has the Pakistan players in his pocket. This isn't about a one-off betting fix, it is about a long-term deal that delivers consistently "reliable" outcomes.

The ECB should withdraw the England team immediately from the current game and the players involved should be banned for life.

For all we know, it could easily be the case that someone has won a fortune on a bet that the eighth wicket stand world be a world record beater. If the only reason it happened is that the Pakistan team weren't serious about getting Trott and Broad out, then the game is completely meaningless.

Pakistan test match betting scandel.

Not so much match-fixing,but when to bowl a no-ball etc,to the tune of a 150K.

Where betting and sport collide corruption is everywhere. Football, cricket, horse racing etc etc. So this story by the bog roll newspaper is hardly earth shattering.

I disagree. I don't think there's been many cases where it's as systematic and involves as many players as this suggests.

This will put all the heroics and records of Trott and Broad's partnership into question.

Makes more sense - I only caught the news report on TV when playing poker so didn't read the whole thing. That No Ball was the biggest No Ball I have ever seen and I fail to believe that a Test player can get their run up that wrong.

Er... this is proof that players are under direct control of match-fixers. It's massive.

I wasn't disputing that this is proof. It just confirms that betting and sport is corrupt. I was just alluding to the fact that this criminal activity has been going on for years, anybody who thinks not is naive.
