i want a club to follow, and a club that my grandchildren can follow..........however shit or skint the club is, i know that at the moment we are not existing on the whim of some 'businessman' and that our fate is not directly linked to him becoming bored and wanting something else to play with

What short and inaccurate memories people have!

Bill Archer DID NOT own 100% of BHA FC Ltd, but a majority shareholding in exactly the same way that Dick Knight does now -

It was split between him and Greg Stanley, Ray Bloom and a couple of others(don't quote me on this last one as I cannot remember for sure). Therefore, purely from a business perspective, the circumstances are absolutely no different now to what they were 10 years ago!

What IS different is the circumstances which had Attilla & others bothered to read my last post on this subject correctly are totally different. IF a Roman Abramovich, Jack Walker, John Madejski type character bought a controlling share in BHA FC now and invested £20million into the cost of the stadium and the playing budget what would the point be now for him or her to try to screw the club? It would just not make any business sense as they would not make any money - In fact the business would be far more profitable if it was made a success(ie. reached the Premiership) with promotions, Sky money, sponsorships and the general worldwide publicity the Premiership generates. Prime example is Bolton.

Bellotti, Archer & Stanley attempted to kill this club but couldn't because of 10,000 + Brighton supporters...not one or two who tend to shout a little louder than everybody else.

Unfortunately, the short sightedness of some of you could actually prevent this club from becoming what it should be IMHO - one of the top 10 clubs in the country and all because they are worried another Archer is going to come along. Does anyone seriously think that DK would let that happen?

Also, those worried about what will never happen will be happy just to let poor little Brighton plod along being a yo-yo team between the Championship and League 1 and to watch mediocre football and getting charged ludicrous amounts to watch below average footballers week in week out - well bollocks to that...I and many others have put far too much time, money, passion and love into this club just for it to be another Crewe, Rochdale, Bournemouth or Orient and I want this club to be a success both on and off the pitch and there is absolutely no way whatsoever we can ever dream of being a top flight premiership team with the outlook some of you have....It has never worked in the past and it will never work in the future.

The capacity at Falmer has decreed that we will float around the championship/div 1 with no aspiration to get to the premier.

Bottom line is, most (no, not all, but most) 'businessmen' with large amounts of money have got where they've got by being ruthless individuals who don't give a shit for anyone but themselves. That's the nature of capitalism! I'd like to see 'businessmen' taken out of the equation as owners and for clubs to be community owned as so many are in mainland Europe (including some of the very biggest) That isn't going to happen in the short term at the Albion, obviously.
So we have to make the best of the current system, which is by being bloody certain that anyone who does invest in the club has its best interests at heart and by erring on the side of caution if we're not sure. BHAFC should be our club, not some plutocrat's plaything.
Off out.A

The Blooms have been involved for years - one of the greatest tragedies was Harry Bloom getting killed in a helicopter crash - If he'd have survived, I am confident we would be a premiership team now with the amount of money he was going to put in.

Didnt Harry Bloom have a heart attack on the coach coming home from a game.

Keith Wickenden the brains and power behind Mike Bamber died in a plane crash but don't remember Harry Bloom being in a helicopter crash.

Harry Bloom died of a heart attack at an away game, I think Stoke

Keith Wickenden died in a light plane crash, he was involved in Townesend Thoresen

Thank you Ernest us old boys know.

The major disaster was the loss of Keith Wickenden from the football clubs point of view because he kept Bambers feet on the ground. With him as eventual chairman there was no telling how far we could have gone but then I forgot no 1 man can run the club in case they rob us.
