[Albion] Would you have been happy with this at the beginning of the season?

Would you have been happy with that stuff I wrote in the opening post before the season started?

(Try to pretend you've not seen us throw points away.)

Before the season started, would you have been happy with this at the halfway point of the season...

- 12 points above relegation
- 7 points above Palace
- 5 points off (likely) Champions League
- 2 points off (likely) European qualification

At the start I thought 30 points by half way would be excellent with all the new faces. Going into those 'easy' 6 games where we were expectations were adjusted but, kick off, day 1 .... Yes, 27 points would have been B+.

Objectively? Yes.

Subjectively? No. Underlying feeling is that the team is misfiring, underperforming and drifting down the table
Your second line is answering now, though.

I'm asking if someone, on August 1st, said...

"Halfway through the season, this is where you'll be:

- 12 points above relegation
- 7 points above Palace
- 5 points off (likely) Champions League
- 2 points off (likely) European qualification"

...would you have thought "That sounds OK", or "That sounds rubbish"?

All those things? Obviously, yes.

We’ve been bi polar in achieving it though. Far more consistency needed in the second half of the season.
Again, before the season started you'd not know how it was achieved, you'd be answering on the raw numbers alone.

Understood, but if you asked people before the season started “would you be happy with beating Man City at home and losing to Palace at home?” you’d have a wide variety of answers.

The second half of last season was a disappointment and our form after January was very poor. With all the new signings we had over the Summer (maybe they were over hyped), I thought we would be in 6th/7th/8th place by now and have more consistency and play more on the front foot than we have done lately. We seem to have gone back to the Potter days at times of a very slow build up and overplaying the ball around the oppositions 18 yard box and are missing that cutting edge.

Above expectations for me in some ways. I'd expected a tougher start with so many new faces. I think we are beginning to see more understanding between them now, as post subs against Villa. However, my expectations are much as the same as the early 00s, all over the place.

Yes. Obviously.

St Pauli with Hurz in charge never had more than three winless games in a row and our current 7 winless game streak makes it difficult to sit calmly in the "look at the league table and smile" boat. We need to win a game of football pretty soon or it could all turn into a bit of chaos, despite the great look of the league table and our points so far.

I'd have been happy with it, but I do think something isn't right with the team. Easy to play through and can't break teams down that set up to defend.

The question gives some good perspective as I've been in the doubtful of Fab camp. Just think some of the good results are due to having quality players as opposed to being set up well.

Let's see what the second half of the season brings.

Yes, yes I would’ve been happy with all that before a ball had been kicked … but the mid table is congested so the 2 points off Europa while technically correct is a bit of a stretch… it’s not like we are one place and 2 points off it.

To be honest, as much as I’m ok with where we are I did have higher expectations and given the maddening 6 or 8 points that we threw away we should be higher
