It seems to be only way.

Supermarkets, taxis and all public transport. Why not?

I think some in Government have become so weeded to the whole “FREEDOM!!” narrative that they’ve left themselves no room politically to roll back at all. Plus a large section of the right wing press have done this a dozen times harder and won’t countenance any sort of “retreat” to the “doom mongers” and the like.

Basically, much as in the US, it’s become just another front in the “culture wars”. Which ended up very, very badly over there (fortunately it hasn’t happened with vaccines over here like it has over there), let’s hope it doesn’t do so over here.

Agreed.

Not just in the US and UK. A Euro pandemic expert was interviewed last week, he or she described 57% mask wearing in the EU this summer/autumn indoors in public places across the zone. Far better than in the Goldstone Lidl! But still 100m’s of blasé or arrogant refusers.

You will be breaking the law next week then?

Unless they're changing the law I suspect not but you carry on like everyone else thinking masks are the only option. I've worn a face covering throughout. It just really hacks me off that people constantly refer to masks. I've not once worn one but I've always complied with the law. Have a nice day

This would be of course why I very specifically used the word mask in my post. I note as well that you made a judgement on me without knowing my circumstances or whether I was exempt. Covid has created a nation of judgemental do gooders who all of course are perfect in their own lives

true, on the other hand we seem to revert to fear and doom based on media reporting without any firm evidence. only yesturday Whitty said he was no more concerned about new variant than Delta. the caution at this point is political to hedge bets in case it is worse.

Strange behaviour intentionally making a post, knowing it will be mis-read so you can then get all indignant when you got the exact response you were looking for.

Not really in keeping with the community spirit we're trying to engender, frankly.

See my response to previous poster who made a judgement on me without reading the wording on the post you've just quoted.

You’re a pedantic arse, aren’t you!

Bozza, in post above, was a little more polite, but I’m sick of people thinking they are being clever...

Apologies. It's been a bug bear of mine throughout the pandemic. I've had an evening out and should perhaps not post when inebriated

Apologies to you also. Genuinely wasn't trying to be clever at all. Drunk posting is bad.

Yes, the law is quite specifically about face-coverings and I'm pretty sure it doesn't mention masks at all, except maybe as an example of a face-covering.

Popped in to Morrisons this morning and was pleased to see a big uptick in mask wearing around the shop.

There was the inevitable one or two wearing a mask under the chin with their nose hanging out which always makes me smile...

to quote George Carlin " Think of how stupid the average person is and then realise that half of them are more stupid than that."

If you don’t have a good medical reason why not then you are just part of the problem...

Agreed. If the exemptions were only available to those with respiratory conditions on sign off of a doctor. But that isn't the case. You are exempt from wearing a face covering

"where putting on, wearing or removing a face covering will cause you severe distress"

You can buy an "I'm exempt" lanyard on ebay for a couple of quid..................and very many have.

Make it compulsory for all (with the exception above) then the shops can easily police mask-wearing and enforce the requirement.
