Would the new Wembley have been better

Somehow I cannot think how the new wembley could be better than Cardiff and the Millenium stadium. OK so the capacity and atmosphere in side the stadium will be nearly the same but I feel that in every other possible aspect the new Wembley will come second.

Pubs, organisation, The police (That I found quite friendly). I have even warmed to the Welsh people.

What a great weekend!

I don't know.. I had a great day but couldn't help thinking that if it were at Wembley we would have sold our allocation and thensome.

We definately would have sold out. However I am not sure if we could would have made more of an atmosphere as when a crowd gets too large it becomes more difficult to make.

I suppose I am looking at cardiff in terms of a whole weekend away. In terms of a day out I guess there are many advantages to it being at Wembley. You only are a short train journey away and can get back to Brighton quite easily.

However I have been to Wembley a few times and the pubs around the stadium are very poor. The Met Police are not known for their friendliness. This is in contrast to what I remember of cardiff.

I agree with this. I saw the local news item and they showed fans celebrating in what I think was Brighton Racecourse and I wondered why they weren't at the game...Could it be that if the match was played closer to home, such as Wembley these people could have gone and we would have sold 40,000.

Also Wembley is a special stadium despite being modernised and it has a romantic meaning that many connect with. I have been to Wembley many times but even when I went to the arena for a concert I made sure I walked up Wembley Way and the hairs on the back of my neck still stood on end and it gives off a magical feeling.

Albion & England forever.

Worth noting that the millennium stadium cost £130 million to build and Wembley is looking nearer a BILLION... and they already own the land!!!

Are they seriously suggesting that Wembley will be over 7 times better than the Millennium stadium? I think not!

The only thing they could do to improve it would be to make the North stand like the rest of the stadium.
I thought everything about the day was fantastic.
The service inside in the bars, the policing, the stewarding, Everybody was treated like a human being, not like animals.
The Welsh were chatty, polite, helpful, and England could learn from that.

One of the stewards was telling me before the game, that the North Stand is one of the original stands from Cardiff Arms Park and could not be made three teir because of the Rugby Club behind. Shame, because the ground would look even more amazing if it was all the same.

Although it certainly gives the ground character. It's nice to see bits of the original ground poking through the new grounds superstructure when you look up to the back of that North Stand.

I had my doubts about Cardiff once it had sunk in that we had made it.

Apart from arriving in the City centre just as 30,000 Palarse supporters were heading out of the ground and walking down the street I was driving along in a car with M111 BHA and Blue and White everywhere- I found the place very welcoming.

Had a few moments where the Brizzles were less than gracious but generally the weekend was much better than I could have hoped for. Just glad that I chose to stay 2 nights and left on Monday morning....arriving home marginally later than some of you:clap2:

Great Stadium-can we come back next year please?

Wembley the town/area is a bit of a crap hole. What made Cardiff a truly marvellous day out was the 10's of thousands of fans from both sides milling about in a pleasent city centre with all the drinking establishments.

Wembley will never have the City Centre atmosphere of the Millennium Stadium. It will always be a two dimensional experience - getting there and being in the stadium.

Cardiff gives us three dimensions - getting there, being in a real city with real pubs etc, and the stadium itself.

Hear Hear!

And Wembley will also lack a castle and mobile bar.

Cardiff was a lot better for me too. The journey home was bothering me, Sunday trains and all that, but in fact it was no real problem. It's an old argument and it's too late: but I wouldn't have built the new stadium at Wembley anyway, it was only chosen for historical reasons. If you were looking for a site now you wouldn't build a new national stadium in a crowded, inaccessible part of North London.

I did agree with you Brovian, but we have a client at Wembley and I have been up there regularly over the past few months. It is a run-down, past-its-best, part of town that really could do with some investment. There is also a lot of history for our game there and that would be lost if it was on another site. A lot will depend on what they can do about the transport links in and out - they are still rubbish - and what is provided in terms of bars etc around the ground. But there is hope that it will be better than many could have hoped.

The arch is on its way up, by the way. It is going to look massive when fully erected.

I guessed this prior to the game, standing in awe and staring at the stadium, I noted the older concrete supports of which both me and me mate guessed were the old stadium. (Cardiff Arms)

Wembley surely for what it is costing will be one of the worlds best stadia, if not I would like to know why the cost???

I was desperate to get to Cardiff before Wembley is ready in two years time.

Being part of 30,000 fans doing a 400 mile round trip will stay in my memory forever. It was my first time to Cardiff and I was impressed by the number of bars within walking distance of the ground.

We can go to Wembley again. Hopefully in three years time for the First Division Play-Off Final. We won't be able to go to Cardiff again!

In years to come we will be able to compare the two!:)
