On the back of Leicester getting away with it, if offered to Man City, would they take a 100pt deduction?
Nothing else, no fine, no more lawyers fees, straight 100 points effective immediatly. They could still play and win the cups thus play in Europe next season (presume Championship clubs can do that?).
It would be good for the Championship with new supporters getting to see the highly paid team of superstars. With no cap on away fans, clubs would charge top wack for tickets. On the other hand, City would field two teams, 1 for the league and the main team for Europe. Imagine the uproar as Haarland and Co get dropped mid week away at Plymouth.

No they wouldn't. Whilst Leicester have gotten away with no points deduction, the trade off is that they lost a season of Premier League income where their broadcast income essentially halved. When Fulham went down and back up in 21/22, their turnover decreased by 38% in that year in the Championship. When you compare Everton's situation to Leicester's, Everton (by staying up) are in a far better position than Leicester.

In short, Leicester may have gotten away with a points deduction based on a bit of pedantic lawyering but they only did it by getting relegated (a financial nightmare) and replicating this precedent will be near impossible. Whilst it's absolutely rubbish that they've weaselled out of it, I don't think the ruling affects the legitimacy of PSR in this specific case.

But it did occur to me that if the EPL did grow a pair and hand City a points deduction such that it would be impossible to stay up this season (which 100 points would almost certainly be), then the clubs that have already played City at that point would be absolutely fuming. Having to play against a City that is fighting for the title, vs a City that has already been relegated and have nothing to play for is, likely, a big difference.

It's going to be tight for sure.

They cut their wages enormously last season and more importantly they sold at the right times. They basically needed to make up almost exactly £100m ahead of June 30 2024. To do this they sold: Harvey Barnes for £38m, Castagne for £15m, and KDH for £30m. So £83m in £17m to find...

It's short, but is it going to be too short?

It is the PL. And there lies the dichotomy between financial/revenue generation and sporting competition/integrity. The PL wants the cash AND the competition without f***ing off its biggest sides.

Man City (allegedly) manipulated the rules to become its biggest side and therefore have severely f***ed off the PL’s and Europe’s biggest sides. Fair Play & Finance are impossible bedfellows.

This is where I am too. I strongly suspect that they'll get a points deduction of the magnitude that will prevent them from winning the title but won't be enough to relegate them.
