Not saying he will sell up, but as we have seen with player sales, if the price is right…..I keep being told that first and foremost he’s a businessman so I wouldn’t dismiss the possibility of a sale.

Completely different things. The player sales are all part of his strategy to make sure his club is sustainable as he's stated dozens of times - i.e. he's looking to make a profit for the club to reinvest. At no point has he ever indicated the slightest inclination to profit personally (or even look for his loans to be repaid)

Nope BUT he is a businessman..I am sure he has zero intention of selling but if a pornographic offer for the club came in (obscene and I stole that expression from an Italian I was listening to on Talk Sport today) who knows?

If Tony Bloom’s business took a terrible dive due to economic circumstances….. He would then have to put his family first and consider selling us. Having said that , I don’t think that is likely and neither should he consider a multi billion offer from a foreign source . We are happy as we are , thank you.
But as someone said earlier, why worry about it …. It may never happen.

He has a lot more than one business plus property portfolios and equity portfolios.

This model of buying unknown players for relatively low fees, and selling them on for a profit, needs a lot of luck. Once Caicedo, and possibly MacAllister have been sold, we will be back to square one. Particularly, as GP took our best talent spotter with him.

Yes, TB has recouped a lot of his money, but that's not put back into established players.

It's a lovely dream to have a local man as chairman, but gradually sides are being bought up by owners who have significantly more money than Bloom, and are prepared to spend it.

For me, the simple fact is that I would follow TB and the Albion and support them if we were in the Championship, league 1, league 2, Div 1, Div 2 and Div 3 as I did before. I would rather do this than have him 'sell up to guarantee we stay in the Premier'

I'm living the dream of having a born and bred Brighton supporter as owner and the club playing the most stunning football I've ever seen and I suspect that I'm not alone, but obviously your dreams are different

Is there a price Tony Bloom would sell for? Most likely, yes.

Would anyone want to pay the sort of money that would have TB thinking about selling? Very unlikely.

Brighton is not (yet at least) a internationally known football brand, not really a historical football city and probably close to being maxed out in terms of attendance (or infrastructure to bring more attendance, at least). I don't think the really really wealthy dirt-billionaires out there would be all that interested in buying the club.

It remains to be seen whether Kyle Macauley was our best talent spotter, doesn't it? Do we know which players he unearthed as opposed to the ones who had been on our radar before he arrived? I certainly don't. Paul Winstanley is still head of recruitment and the data analysis that TB provides through one of his other interests remains at our disposal as far as I know, so I'm fairly confident we'll still be competitive on that front.

While posting another thread it made me think, do we think Bloom would ever sell the club before a "usual" retirement age and if he did, who to?

He's 52 now, so say he had another 10 years in him at the absolute top of the club? Would he want to keep it local and/or British? Or would he do like more and more of the clubs in the Premier League, and sell it to overseas buyers. From minimal research, so please correct me, but only 6 clubs in the top flight are "British" owned.

I am proud we haven't been sold overseas yet have still managed to have a very successful trajectory over the last 15 years and hope Bloom would somehow continue that once he leaves. Finding a fan to buy the club may be difficult now, given the stature of the club since Bloom took over.

There are plenty of people much older than 62 who run far larger and more complex organisations than a football club. The key is to set the strategy and then appoint people that you trust to get on and deliver. The hardest part here is not to intervene (unless it is essential), but to be there to support, guide and to provide wise council when approached. He could do this for 30 years if he stays healthy and enjoys it.

Given his families long history with the club I think he views it as something like a
family heirloom/legacy of a sort which you pass down to the next generation.

Irrespective of the value of it to keep it in the family so you know it will be cared for and cherished.

This kind of thing exists in some US Sports teams with children taking over a parents long legacy with a team.

That list is actually incredibly depressing. Football clubs are institutions and part of communities. Is there anything left in this country that is not owned by some foreign state/bank/hedge fund?

If Tony wanted a little project in his retirement then maybe an ice rink and a return of the Brighton Tigers ice hockey team to the city would be a brilliant thing and achievable with - by his standards - pocket money.

Indeed, I think he has created a brand of club that it would be great to see rolled out in another sport. A Brighton and Hove Albion women's Netball team would be brilliant too. Continental football clubs have had success with basketball, while Saracens here have a very successful netball side.

Maybe not viable for the council to go it alone on the project, but with TB on board would appear on the face of it to be a match made in heaven and would do much to regenerate that long-neglected area of the seafront

Liz Costa told me on air at Saltergate (long time ago) that if he ever cashed out to foreign owners she would immediately stop supporting the club.
Back then this would have been on a par of George Best giving up women.

Personally I’d wait and see.

With the growth of online retail you would think the Council would be keen to introduce alternative attractions in/around the city centre that would bring in replacement footfall.

I think the un-named high net-worth strategic investor is Tony Bloom.

Apart from the slip in the headline. Lacerta sports (who a few months ago announced a partnership with metric gaming) is owned by starlizard.
I would say that makes Tony a strategic investor.

I also noticed Metric gamings Chairman of the board is a fella called Martin de Knijff who is a professional poker player. so perhaps they know each other from playing poker. Also Tony was winning a Poker tournament in Vegas at the beginning of October. This article came out 11 days later. Metric gaming is based in Las Vegas.

Maybe I'm adding 2+2 togeather and getting the wrong answer, but I thought it was interesting.
