Fonthill road on the corner of hove park villas,about 70 huddersfield came steaming along unaware that around 120 brighton had just turned the corner into newtown road,some of them were left knocked out and minus jackets and shoes,disgusting scenes

When they were finally led up the steps to the station a Brighton fan in his infinite wisdom decided to launch himself on top of the Huddersfield fans. Managed to get a few punches in then the local constabulary dragged him away to
a waiting police van. Still find that unbelievable. Nuts.

That was the Arsenal game,....rows of boots in hove park, possibly the most pathetic decision I have ever witnessed.....never got my tatty old nine hole boots back, but I did get a nice shiny ten hole pair in exchange.

78 spurs in the South Stand got a good kicking and were done before the game in the bar area under the West Stand. The Albion took them by surprise and they had no where to go.The only time I have ever seen a crew surrender,They were allowed out and given a virtual 5 seconds start before we went for them again.

I don't remember any trouble in the South Stand that day, but I was only 13, but remember I was glad I wasn't in the North Stand.
Was this during the game in the South?

The thrill of going to watch The Albion during those days with all the skirmishing, singing and chanting etc is one of the reasons why those on here that witnessed those events find the Amex and other stadia nowadays so quiet and sanitised. In those days the atmosphere used to build from friday evenings in the centre of town, pubs rammed with Albion fans. I used to really look forward to the weekends back then. Nowadays I see it as a nice afternoon out, thats what age does I suppose. Still I've got the memories of back then, now you can sit in a lovely padded seat and dream of days gone by.

There was certainly an addictive sort of tension building up before home games especially when we were playing the likes of Spurs, West Ham, Millwall, Chelsea and Palace. There was an edgy atmosphere in town on the Friday/Saturday nights. Same feeling at the corresponding away games, which were great to attend. So much more of a tribal feeling about footie matches in those days.

Now its just mild abuse and occasional handbags by spotty youfs. Certainly makes most games these days seem tame but at least you can safely take the wife and kids if you choose, have a decent pie and pint and then have a piss without getting your feet wet (however delete all of those if it's Fratton Park).

The ambush under the west was before the game but the spurs in the south were kept in line all game.
A certain Brighton pub and our friends from Haywards Heath had a good day.

Bit of a punch up in the East Stand around 82/83 with West Ham they were in there mob handed and got battered so much for the infamous ICF !!!

Have to say lads that this is the best thread on this site in a very long time.

I wasn't at many of the matches talked about but do remember a game against Leeds in the mid 80's where 4 Leeds fans who had parked their car in Cranmer Avenue chased me down Elm Drive. Luckily I did my paper round on those roads so was able to leg in into one of my customers houses and out the back door into an alley that took me back onto Holmes Avenue.

Really summed Leeds up for me, I was on my own about 14 years old & they were about 19 or 20 years old I think.

The FA Cup tie in '92? Edwards scored the winner and there were lots of Portsmouth in the North Stand.

I remember that game was my 2nd game i went to and my first time in the north was hooked for life it was 93 and they came on the pitch because they scored but it was disallowed ha!i do remember the gits being in the east side of the north

That was extremely funny. I was in the west terrace, there were a fair few Pompey in there and some of them joined the Muppets from the south on the pitch. Pretty stupid they looked when they had to return to the terrace too.

Cheers lads. I was very small at the time but it was so odd it made an image in my brain. Good to know I haven't totally lost my marbles.

There were also piles of DMs at the corner of Newtown Road and Goldstone Lane.

Don t know if anyone remembers when we played swansea 93 i remember it went off outside the north and after the game i was chased by about 80 of them outside the east stand down the road luckily i was pretty rapid and manged to lose them down one of the side roads by the high rise flats.i caught the end of all those times and great atmosphere in the northstand.the kids of today who go and bang on about the north at the amex on here sadly have not vot a clue how good football used to be i love going to the amex but its not a patch on the goldstone.

I saw the England Wales game 2/3 years ago in Cardiff. The police spend all their time keeping the Cardiff and Swansea fans apart they couldn't be bothered about the English! It is like the 70's here.......
