My relegations I've seen are

72/73 - Expected as we just didn't bridge the gulf between 3 and 2 and a lot of players had got old.

82/83 - The Cup Final papered over the cracks but had Bailey been allowed to carry on building the team from the back we wouldn't have gone down nor we would we have got to the Cup Final though. Whether history would have changed and would we have stayed in the Top Division for much longer who knows but a new ground or a renovated Goldstone might have happened sooner if we had have stayed up and history might show this was the worst relegation as the financial crisis that enveloped the club emanated from this relegation and players contracts etc.

86/87 - Not really unexpected once Mullers was sacked and LLoyd started flogging off the team and playing the likes of Tiltman but at least we bounced straight back from this one.

91/92 - Not really unexpected as we were always going to struggle once Byrne and Small were sold and the debt mountain was swamping the club.

95/96 - Totally expected as the club was in chaos once Brady departed and it was mayhem on and off the pitch.

02/03 - Totally expected once Tinselhead became manager and injuries done Zamora and we only bought in the useless Butters , Kitson and Barrett. But at least we bounced back and had the day in Cardiff.

05/06 - Expected once we sold Virgo and Dick Tight refused to strengthen the team whilst spunking away money on the likes of Turienzo, in a way the next bad one as we could have stayed up if Magoo had been allowed to get a few players as the early season results weren't too bad.

08/09 - Not down yet but as good as and totally down to who decided to sack Wilkins, employ the useless Adams and waste f*** knows how much money on endless loans of wank players such as Savage. I bet Magoo had tears in his eyes as he saw how much money was wasted on players this year yet 3 years ago he was given nowt when a fraction of what has been wasted this season would have kept us in the championship.
I've got to say Ernest that's a bloody good analysis. Can't argue with much of that.

I think this must be the worst. When you invest in a manager and squad you expect more. I saw a pre-season game and looked at the players and thought we must be a play-off side.

I still can't see that we will get relegated - but it is harder with each defeat to see how we can survive.

Thanks to Ernest for his rundown of doom.

I also think this is the worse just because, as somebody else pointed out, it's self inflicted. There's loads on here now saying they expected to struggle but I don't think that was the general view pre-season. I thought we had the makings of a good team. the addition of a bit of experince and a touch of steel, which i fully expected MA to bring, would make us real promotion challengers.

I can't believe just how inept we have been. Not beating the likes of 9 man Walsall, drawing home games with Hereford & Cheltenham and how so many teams would come down here, let us play our route 1 football untill we had run out of steam, then just take the points with ease.

In most relegation seasons the team shows some fight. The 72/73 and the relegation under Coppel had us adrift by hugh margins which we very nearly made up but this team has done nothing.

These players would think that they are better than those in 96/97 that almost took us out the league but that team show fight, bottle & 'never say die'. Will we have any hero's at Hereford this time?

Seasons 1961/62 and 1962/63 my first relegations from Division 2 through to Division 4 in successive seasons

This season compares with those for me, with Adams being as poor as then manager George Curtis.

To me this doesn't feel as bad as the 'ghost' relegation season of 97/98. OK, we didn't go down then, but we bloody well should have done (thank you Donny).

Ah the naivety of young men. If only we`d known.

We damn nearly did bounce straight back up coming 6th and in with a chance of promotion on the last game of the season.

I think this is the most depressing relegation. In others at least we had a bit of passion and pride whereas now its like watching 9 players dying of cholera while the other few play alright but with passion and in your mind you know those few players would kiss the badge even if it had poisonous snake venom on it. The others just let the team down.

Have to agree, excellent review from Ernest.

Whatever happens I just want this bloody season to end and the nasty men to go away please mum.

All I know is that come August I will be once again transformed into an optimistic full of hope Albion fan, a season closer to Falmer and looking forward to some right hammerings of some northern monkeys. Right now I'm miserable, apathetic, resigned to relegation and resentful towards anything Albion related.

I blame Peter Ward, its his fault I support the Albion in the first place, the permy haired free scoring legend bastard.

Of course you always remember the threads you started on here and even if you have spent a day on the sherbert you some times need to reflect on your sentiments and maybe just maybe look back on things. I think Dick Knight is a pillock over the sacking of Wilkins but I do thank the Lord he had the ......... to sack Adams when it was needed and give us half a chance.

If he fails to give Slade the gig then God help us.

I doubted the albion on surviving this campaign and an amazed we are where we are.

It was quite an incredible turnaround and all credit to RS and the players.

No doubt the inquests into this season will start soon and there are so many lessons to be learned.

Am looking forward to next season already. With some pretty big teams in, I don't think the weight of expectation will be so great and we have so many mouthwatering local fixtures to look forward to.
