Grimsby away 1985 we won 4-2, the locals were not pleasant after the game.
It was an evening game, my starter motor had gone on the car and we had the runaround with the locals after the match.

We were 2-0 down with 12 minutes to go, and needed a win to have an outside chance of promotion I seem to recall.

3 games for me stand out.

- Play off final against County , we played absolutely shit.
- Palace away with the 5 penalites. everytime a player went down, Palace or Brighton, we were shouting for a penalty, even if it was in the centre circle! Some trouble after where a group of about 20 Brighton chased up the road to confront Palace, they got few hits in and then ran back to the station, with 3 Palace pikeys walking up afterwards wanting to carry on but then got held by the coppers outside the station.

- But the worst has to be the 5-0, especially as I was in the home end! Went with the father-in-law and his Palace chums, still get stick to this day about it! He's asked me if I want a ticket for the game in Jan, but I'm not sure if I can take it again!

Also basically the Gillingham years, such a shithole and such a depressing drive back after ANOTHER loss!

had a few dodgy ones over the years, but mine is f***ing oldham of all places,78/79 april time, got caught by there mob in a mini bus, thankfully it was a panelled one, kicked the f*** out of it,tried rocking it over and some hairy **** was trying his hardest to prise the passenger door open, where i was sitting

anyway my uncle who was driving, decided to go for it,some muppet tried to stop us,but we caught him with the left hand side of the van, spinning round like a whirling dervish he was,a solitary copper trying to get through the mob just shrugged his shoulders,as if to say,get the f*** out of here

funny thing is around 12 years later, started seeing a bird from oldham of all places(well middleton, for those who know greater manchester) and when i went up there i couldn't meet a nicer bunch of people, never bought a drink all weekend

Was that the game when Wigan had there game called off and turned up?

Seem to remember stopping off in Wolverton on route for a few beers pre match Think we were messing about with water pistols on tha day
Buses direct to the ground from the station I remember that as it was a long journey
Madness in the park after the game Brighton fighting Brighton
Police dog dragging down a guy feet away from me as we charged across the park
utter chaos
indeed northampton did invade the pitch at the final whistle to attack us

i dont remember our fans fighting each other in the park only theres i think one got slashed

we were all searched back at the station

just dug the programmes out,it was 77-78,april 22nd,oldham's last home game of the season, had only lost 2 at home all season,so i guess 1-1 was a good result

got to the ground early and there was a massive hole in the fence,so alot of brighton fans were just getting in for nothing,i remember half a dozen oldham lads waiting behind the goal, but got sussed quickly,as some brighton lads appproached them someone shouted out"what's up lads, going home early?" as they climbed over the wall and onto the pitch, where the OB took them away

1984 or 1985 ish away to Watford FA Cup, when I observed the police start a fight with albion fans. The incident got plenty of coverage in Argus at the time. I have never been against the police and as a laydee never get involved in any violence which I abhor but was horrified at police actions I witnessed that day, and Albion lost. :flameboun

Did they walk across the pitch giving it large that day after the whistle ?
cricket pitch off to our left ? or does my memory fail me?
was eric steele in goal for them that day ?

They did have a few that came across the pitch at the end.

We played them 3 times that season.

The away game was the August bank holiday Monday. They had gone up as champions.
They scored with about 2 minutes to go and then super Gerry Armstrong equalised. That seemed to set the scene for the rest of the season.

The cup match was after we had won at Brentford when Nelson scored that wonder goal.
They built a temporary stand of seats with like a tent covering over it.
We won 2-1 and they came across the pitch at the end but that was about it. We all got put on busses straight back to the station.

The home match was on a Friday night for some reason. I think we won 3 - 0.
They bought a big firm down for that and were running around a bit afterwards.

I don’t remember much exciting happening but I remember driving home along the A23 and there was a Reliant in pieces at Pyecombe. Turns out two of theirs were killed in it.

My personal worst away trip has to be Millwall 1986 ish. We won 1 - 0 . Mick Ferguson scored and it was the first time that they had been beaten at home in two seasons. They didn’t take it very well.
We were kept in for ages and then when we got to Forest Gate the train got bricked. We got out alive but I must admit I realised what the Dunkirk troops felt like when they made it back.

We went to Fulham that same season. We lost that one 1-0 but the game was so boring I remember a load of Brighton fans leaving early and playing football in the park outside,

I know Southern Sids Dad. A proper loon with a heart.

Cannot believe that I know the infamous sid and his family lol

look forward to bumping into him and ask him what the f*** got into him about the banned thread..

Bet the shit just laughs about it.

And it was Sid fighting at Chesterfield:lolol:

The Palace 5 penalties game was never a "worst away day" game except for the fact there were skinheads everywhere as I remember. The game itself was funny, as Palace missed so many pens!
The 5-0 though. Different story. Horrible. Nothing can beat it as a humiliation except, well 3 weeks ago!!
Swansea away in about 1989 or so. First game of season, Welsh nutters stormed the pitch after half an hour and tried to take our end. Bizarre. And our coach got stoned by locals on the way into town. Nice.
Chesterfield away, someone already mentioned this. We were stuck in so much traffic, got to the ground 25 mins late, then the Oatway/last min defeat shit. And got a parking ticket.

Attempted pickpocket and knife pulled on me at Selhurst Park.

Threatened to be thrown out by an officious steward at Gillingham, Priestfield when Gillingham are playing at home.

Ate a burger at Fellow's Park and we had to leave the pub because I thought they we cheating us with a pint that looked like a milk-shake in Walsall.

Nearly crushed to death at Aldershot.

remember that incident very well, happened right in front of me,the OB seemed to get a bee in their bonnet about brighton fans being right up against the wall, started as a bit of pushing and shoving, then the obligatory punch was thrown from about 3 rows back, then it was pandemonium, some WPC screaming that her lapel had been ripped off or something

what i did find funny, when the OB finally cleared off,you could see white marks on the backs of there uniforms, where they had been pressed up against the wall

we were awful that day, couldn't cope with george reilly up front for watford

Not the worst, but certainly an oh shit moment.

Hull City at Boothferry Park, Friday evening game, they only gave us a tiny terrace, then when they realised how mant Brighton had turned up the stewards and OB tried to move Hull out of their seats and into the next section, Hull werent having it and it all started kicking off.

After the game we stayed at a pub that did B&B called the Sussex, appropriate name we thought, we'll stay there lol, walked in the door to find it packed with Hulls lads that it had kicked off with earlier, we checked into our room and headed for the other bar :lolol:
