Michael Vaughan and Tuffers have got a good challenge. Pick an all-time World XI using just one player from each of the test-playing nations. They don't say what format, so let's assume it's a test team.

These are all players from my lifetime watching cricket

Ed Joyce
Gordon Greenidge
Graeme Pollock
Sachin Tendulkar
Kumar Sangakkara
Imran Khan (c)
Andy Flower (w)
Ian Botham
Richard Hadlee
Rashid Khan
Glen McGrath

Sub:Habibal Bashar

Do they have to be in your lifetime, like the football one? Only because it'll be easier for me to win in a competitive Dad style....

I met Kumar Sangakkara in Galle and he remains the coolest bloke I've ever seen in real life.

Murali was a chucker not a bowler so it has to be Warne in his place (dickhead though he was). As that drops Glichrist from the team it has to be Sangakkara as WK.

Worthwhile listing an opposing team on same basis?

Presume Boycott was a joke BTW...:lolol:

Oops just noticed Bradman.

OK Warne goes as does Boycott. We'll have Botham and local Boy Ed Joyce can represent Ireland.

A bit bowler heavy I'd say
I like my team that had Botham at 8 and Hadlee at 9

Here's one with a local twist:

Goodwin (Zim)
Joyce (Ire)
Jayawardena (SL)
Dexter (Eng)
Ranjitsinghi (Ind)
Miandad (Pak)
Rashid (Afg)
Le Roux (SA)
Stephenson (WI)
Mustafizur (Ban)
Magoffin (Aus)
12th Taylor (NZ)

Edit: Ranji played for England, so replace with Pataudi

I wasn't alive in 1948.

Nor was I but if you want an all time XI

J Hobbs
E Joyce
Bradman (c)
Tendulkar
Kallis
Imran Khan
Sangakarra
Flower (w)
R Hadlee
M Marshall
R Khan

There's some batting there (only five front line bowlers though)

That's some batting side but a bowler light I'd say. Replace Crowe with Hadlee and that's a decent team - that's an awesome top four

Great thread - I’ve already altered my choices several times but have settled on
Barry Richards
Sanath Jayasuriya
Don Bradman
Sachin Tendulkar
Andy Flower
Imran Khan
Gary Sobers
Shakib-Al-Hasan
Richard Hadlee
Rashid Khan
Sydney Barnes

However I never saw Bradman or Barnes and am obviously influenced by what my Dad and others said so could easily replace them with Steve Smith and Ian Botham or Jimmy Anderson - it’s impossible!!

Seeing as how the goalposts seem to have moved to all time from "during your lifetime"...

R. Hadlee (NZ)
M. Holding (WI)

12th man - R. Khan (Afg)

If it nibbles around with the new ball, Murtagh and Hadlee are going to have you on toast. If it doesn't, Holding will knock your block off while Warney keeps him company.
